Office Chair Facing the Window
Admin October 11, 2026
There are both advantages and disadvantages to having an office chair face the window, and a choice should be made based on actual needs.

Advantages:
- Natural light regulates the circadian rhythm: The blue light in sunlight can inhibit melatonin secretion, enhance daytime alertness, and make people work more efficiently, especially for routine tasks that require focus.
- Stimulates creativity: The open view outside the window can relieve visual fatigue and provide inspiration for creative workers such as designers and writers. The dynamic environment (such as birdsong and pedestrians) may stimulate the activity of the right brain.
- Improves air quality: Natural ventilation reduces the indoor carbon dioxide concentration and lowers the risk of "sick building syndrome" symptoms such as dizziness and drowsiness, especially suitable for enclosed offices.
Disadvantages:
- UV rays accelerate skin aging: Ordinary glass can only block medium-wave ultraviolet (UVB) rays, while long-wave ultraviolet (UVA) rays have a penetration rate of up to 90%. Long-term direct exposure may lead to asymmetric photoaging of the face (faster aging on the left side).
- Screen glare interference: When the layout is in the direction of the sunlight or against the sunlight, sunlight forms a mirror reflection on the screen, causing blurred text, increasing the risk of eye fatigue, and potentially reducing work efficiency.
- Distraction of attention: Dynamic elements outside the window such as pedestrians and vehicles continuously stimulate the amygdala in the brain, causing the unconscious consumption of attention resources, especially affecting the execution of complex tasks.
Optimization solutions:
- Layout adjustment: Place the computer screen at a 90ยฐ angle to the window to use side light to reduce glare; adjust the seat height so that the line of sight is level with the horizon outside the window to avoid excessive neck extension.
- Light control: Install adjustable blinds or shades. During periods of strong light (such as noon), reduce the light transmittance to 30%-50%; choose anti-UV coated glass or films to block more than 99% of UVA rays.
- Time management: Use natural light for creative work in the morning and draw the curtains in the afternoon to focus on data-related tasks; wear anti-blue light glasses to reduce the visual interference caused by screen glare.
- Environmental isolation: Use green plants or bookshelves as visual barriers to weaken the dynamic interference outside the window; those sensitive to sound can be equipped with white noise machines or noise-cancelling headphones.
