Office Chair Drawing Methods

Admin October 08, 2026

There are various ways to draw office chairs. Here are some common and practical methods for you:

Structural Hierarchy Division Method

When drawing an office chair, start by using broad lines to divide the structural hierarchy. An office chair typically consists of parts such as the backrest, headrest, seat, armrests, and legs. Taking the backrest and headrest as examples, they have different functions. The backrest mainly supports the back, while the headrest supports the head, and there are also obvious differences in their shapes and positions. Clearly separating them with lines can make the overall structure of the chair more distinct. For instance, use a smooth curve to roughly outline the contours of the backrest and headrest, and then further refine the shapes and proportions of each part. This can make the drawing more layered and three-dimensional.

Simple Sketch Method

This is a relatively simple and easy-to-master approach. First, draw an arc, which can serve as the general outline of the seat, reflecting its curvature and conforming to ergonomic design for a more comfortable sitting experience. Next, draw a semicircle and a rectangle. The semicircle can represent part of the backrest, and the rectangle can be used to depict the side of the armrest or the seat. Connect these shapes to create a sense of thickness, making the chair look more three-dimensional. Then, draw the legs of the chair along the lines. An office chair usually has four legs, with two shorter legs visible at the back to maintain the chair's stability. Finally, you can also unleash your creativity and add some decorative elements such as lace, wavy lines, or small circles to make the office chair more personalized and artistic.

Office Swivel Chair Drawing Method

If you want to draw an office swivel chair, follow these steps: First, draw a rounded rectangle as the basic shape of the swivel chair's seat. Draw straight lines on both sides of the rounded rectangle and small rectangles at the top to represent the armrests. Draw a rectangle in the middle and a large rounded rectangle at the top as the backrest. The large rounded rectangle can better fit the curve of the human back. Then, draw the bottom support frame of the swivel chair below. The shape of the support frame can be drawn according to the actual design, usually radiating outwards. Draw small wheels at the end of each support frame at the bottom. These are the key components that enable the office swivel chair to rotate and move flexibly. Finally, color the swivel chair according to your personal preference to make it more vivid.
