Office Chair Dimensions LWH

Admin October 17, 2026

The dimensions of office chairs are typically described by parameters such as seat height, seat depth, backrest height, backrest width, and length and width, with specific ranges as follows:

Seat height is one of the most critical dimensions of an office chair, directly affecting leg comfort and blood circulation. The seat height range for conventional office chairs is 35-45 centimeters, with some designs emphasizing ergonomic adaptability. It is recommended to choose adjustable models, with adjustment ranges typically between 38-48 centimeters. This design can accommodate users of different heights. For example, individuals with a height of 160-180 centimeters can adjust the seat height so that their feet rest naturally on the ground, with their thighs parallel to the ground, avoiding leg suspension or compression.

Seat depth refers to the horizontal distance from the front edge of the seat to the backrest, primarily affecting the support for the buttocks and thighs. The standard seat depth range is 40-45 centimeters. It is essential to ensure that when the user sits upright, their buttocks are fully in contact with the seat, their back can naturally touch the backrest, and there is approximately a 2-3 centimeter gap between the back of the knees and the front edge of the seat to avoid compressing blood vessels and nerves. If the seat depth is too short, it may cause the buttocks to hang in the air; if it is too long, it may compress the back of the knees, causing discomfort.

Backrest height is divided into two types: the conventional backrest height is approximately 41-42 centimeters, primarily supporting the area from the waist to the scapula; special models such as office chairs with headrests can have a total height of up to 120 centimeters, providing additional support for the neck and head, suitable for users who work at a desk for long periods or need to take a nap. The choice should be based on the usage scenario. For ordinary office scenarios, a backrest height of 41-42 centimeters is sufficient; if neck support is required, attention should be paid to the headrest adjustment function.

Backrest width affects the activity space for the shoulders and back, with a standard range of 40-42 centimeters. A width that is too narrow will restrict shoulder movement, leading to muscle tension; a width that is too wide may cause the body to lean back excessively, affecting sitting posture stability. It is recommended to choose a size that matches the user's shoulder width. For example, for users with a shoulder width of 40 centimeters, a backrest width of 40-42 centimeters can provide comfortable support.

Length ร— Width usually refers to the planar dimensions of the seat surface, with a common specification of 450 ร— 450 millimeters. This size can accommodate most body types of users, ensuring sufficient support area for the buttocks and thighs while avoiding the seat taking up too much space. If the user is relatively obese or needs additional activity space, larger length and width models can be chosen, but attention should be paid to matching with the desk to avoid affecting leg placement.
