Office Chair Cylinder Installation

Admin October 09, 2026

The installation of an office chair cylinder should follow standardized procedures, with core steps including preparing tools, removing the old cylinder, installing the new cylinder, and testing its functionality. Details are as follows:

I. Pre-installation Preparation

  1. Tools and Materials

    • Prepare pipe wrenches (for removing the old cylinder), soft cloths (to protect the chair surface), and a new cylinder (it is recommended to choose one with a length similar to the original model, commonly ranging from 60-180 millimeters).
    • If the cylinder is damaged and causes the chair to sink, prepare hose clamps or PVC pipes in advance (measure the cylinder diameter to select matching sizes) as temporary fixing tools.
  2. Safe Environment

    • Place the chair on a stable surface to avoid tipping over during operation; if the cylinder valve is located at the bottom or side, confirm its position in advance for subsequent adjustment.

II. Removing the Old Cylinder (if replacement is needed)

  1. Using Pipe Wrenches for Assistance

    • If the old cylinder is difficult to remove, wrap the upper and lower parts of the cylinder with a soft cloth and slowly turn it with a pipe wrench, ensuring even force to avoid damaging the chair seat or base connection holes.
    • For some chairs, you may need to remove components such as armrests or backrests first to expose the cylinder connection, referring to the product manual for operation.
  2. Temporary Fixing (for emergencies only)

    • If the damaged cylinder causes the chair to continuously sink, use a hose clamp to tighten the cylinder piston rod or cut a PVC pipe of appropriate length to fit over the cylinder to prevent further contraction.

III. Installing the New Cylinder

  1. Vertically Aligning with the Connection Hole

    • Insert the bottom of the new cylinder into the center hole of the base, ensuring that the cylinder axis is perpendicular to the chair seat and base; tilted installation can cause lifting jams or air leaks.
    • Slowly press down on the chair seat to fully embed the top of the cylinder into the connection hole at the bottom of the chair seat until you hear a 'click' sound or feel it is securely in place.
  2. Assembling Other Components

    • Reconnect components such as armrests and backrests according to the installation sequence, ensuring all screws are tightened to avoid rattling or shaking during use due to looseness.

IV. Function Testing and Adjustment

  1. Lifting and Lowering Test

    • After sitting on the chair, adjust the height using the cylinder valve (usually located at the bottom or side) and check if the lifting and lowering are smooth; if there is jamming, recheck the cylinder's perpendicularity.
  2. Stability Check

    • Rock the chair back and forth and side to side to confirm there is no looseness or abnormal noise; if the connection between the base and the cylinder is found to be wobbly, disassemble it again and apply a small amount of lubricant (such as silicone grease) before reinstalling.

Tip: The cylinder structures of office chairs from different brands may vary. It is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact the manufacturer for installation guidance that matches the model to avoid damaging components due to improper operation.
