Office Chair Cutting Methods

Admin October 09, 2026

There are mainly the following office chair cutting methods, and you can choose the appropriate one according to the actual situation:

Cutting Using a Template

First, accurately measure the key dimensions of the office chair, such as its length, width, and height. These data serve as the basis for making the template. Based on the measured dimensions, draw the shape of the chair on cardboard or other suitable materials and then cut it out. This gives you the chair template. Place the made template steadily on the selected fabric or other materials. Use a marking pen to clearly mark the cutting lines along the edges of the template. After that, carefully cut along the marked lines with scissors to ensure that the cut shape is consistent with the template. After cutting, sew the cut parts of the materials together according to the structure of the chair. Pay attention to keeping the stitching lines neat and firm during the sewing process to finally form a complete chair cover.

Cutting Using Cardboard

Select a piece of cardboard large enough and carefully wrap it around the office chair to ensure that the cardboard can completely cover the chair and fit its shape. Use scissors to cut the cardboard along the outline of the chair into a shape similar to the chair. Leave appropriate seam allowances at key parts, such as the connection between the chair back and the seat, to allow for flexible operation during subsequent sewing. Take the cut cardboard as a pattern, place it flat on the selected materials, mark the cutting lines with a marking pen in the same way, and then cut according to the marks. After cutting, the materials can form a chair cover suitable for the office chair after sewing.

Cutting Using Right-Angled Triangles

Place the office chair on a large piece of paper and draw its shape outline along the edges of the chair with a pencil. Use a ruler to accurately measure the length, width, height, and other dimensions of the chair. Draw right-angled triangles on the paper according to these dimensions. Place the drawn right-angled triangles on the selected materials, mark the cutting lines with a marking pen, and then cut with scissors. After cutting, sew the various parts of the materials together. During the sewing process, pay attention to adjusting the shape and position of the materials so that they can perfectly fit the office chair and finally form a chair cover.

Cutting by Measuring the Backrest Dimensions

Use measuring tools to accurately measure the dimensions of the backrest of the office chair. When measuring, consider leaving seam allowances. Generally, the width of the seam allowances is determined according to actual needs and sewing techniques. Cut the selected materials according to the measured dimensions, ensuring that the edges are neat during cutting. If you like, you can first sew your favorite fabric patches onto the cut materials to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the chair cover. Finally, overlock the edges of the sewn pieces to prevent the fabric edges from fraying and improve the quality and durability of the chair cover.
