Cleaning Methods for Dirty Office Chair Cushions
Admin October 11, 2026
You can choose appropriate cleaning methods for dirty office chair cushions based on their materials, as follows:

Sponge Cushions
- Cleaning Precautions: During cleaning, avoid using overly hot water to prevent deformation of the sponge due to high temperatures; do not use a hairdryer on a high setting to blow directly on the sponge to prevent damage; do not use excessive water to avoid difficulty in drying; use a small and appropriate amount of cleaning agent, as excessive amounts may leave residues and affect use.
- Cleaning Steps:
- Removing Loose Dust: If you have a vacuum cleaner, use it to suck up the dust. If not, manually pat the cushion with your hands or a clothes hanger. When there is a lot of dust, it is best to wear a mask to prevent inhaling the dust.
- Removing Stubborn Stains: Take a clean cloth, wet it with water, and wring it out until it no longer drips. Dip it in a small amount of dry-cleaning solution or water-based cleaning agent, and gently wipe the stained areas multiple times. Then, rinse the cloth clean, wring it out, and wipe twice to remove any remaining cleaning agent.
- Air-Drying: After cleaning, air-dry the cushion promptly. You can place it in a well-ventilated area, use an electric fan to blow on it, or use a hairdryer, but keep the temperature low. Note that it is not advisable to wash the cushion with water, as non-removable sponge cushions are difficult to dry.
- Other Methods: You can also first spray a multi-functional cleaning agent on the dirty areas, wipe with a clean towel, repeat several times to clean up the excess foam. If there are still obvious stains, repeat the cleaning process several times. Finally, use a non-fading clean towel dipped in clean water to repeatedly wipe the stained areas and let it air-dry naturally.
Mesh Cushions
- First, pat the cushion to remove surface dust, and then use a towel or a vacuum cleaner to suck up hair and other debris on the surface.
- Use warm water mixed with a multi-functional fabric cleaning agent to wipe the stained areas for deeper cleaning.
- You can also use a vacuum cleaner to fully suck up the dust, dilute the cleaning agent or pour it into a watering can and spray it on the office chair. Let the cleaning agent sit for a while, and then use a steam cleaner and a high-temperature cleaning machine alternately to suction-wash at least twice. During cleaning, use a water absorber to dry the washed office chair to speed up the drying process.
Light-Colored Chair Cushions
Buy a well-reviewed fabric cleaning agent online and spray it on the dirty areas of the chair. Wipe with a clean towel, spray again after each wipe, and repeat two or three times. Then, use a non-fading clean towel dipped in clean water and wrung out to wipe several times. When wiping, wet the entire seat cushion, and let it air-dry naturally or use a hairdryer to dry it.
