Office Chair Color Change

Admin October 09, 2026

The color change of an office chair can be achieved through spray painting, dyeing, or refinishing processes, with the specific method depending on the material. Safety and attention to detail are crucial during operation.

I. Basic Materials and Tool Preparation

  1. Paint Selection
    • Aerosol Paint/Water-Based Paint: Environmentally friendly water-based paint has a mild odor and dries quickly, suitable for most materials. Aerosol paint is easy to operate but requires selecting the appropriate type based on the material (wood requires special paint, metal requires rust-proof paint, and fabric requires dye).
    • Leather Color Change Paint: Ensure sufficient purchase quantity (to avoid color differences due to multiple applications). When the color saturation is high, spray at least 4 coats and operate in a dust-free environment.
  2. Auxiliary Tools
    • 200-400 grit fine sandpaper (for wood/metal sanding), 150 grit coarse sandpaper (for leather and metal frame sanding), cloth, masking tape, old newspapers (to protect non-sprayed areas), alcohol/white vinegar (for stubborn stain cleaning).

II. Operation Steps and Key Points

  1. Basic Treatment
    • Cleaning: Wipe the surface with a damp cloth. For oil stains or stubborn dirt, use alcohol/white vinegar for treatment.
    • Sanding: Lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper to break the original luster and enhance adhesion. Wipe off the dust and then apply masking tape to protect metal connectors or fabric parts.
  2. Spray Painting/Dyeing Operation
    • Shaking the Paint Can: Shake the aerosol paint can for 1-2 minutes to mix the paint evenly.
    • Spraying Technique: Maintain a distance of 20-30 centimeters and spray evenly in a 'Z' pattern. Apply thin coats each time to prevent runs, with an interval of 15-20 minutes between coats, totaling 2-3 coats. Water-based paint dries faster; ventilate for 4-6 hours after the last coat.
    • Leather Dyeing: Use coarse sandpaper to sand the metal frame. For high-saturation colors, spray at least 4 coats in a dust-free environment.

III. Special Scheme Reference

  1. Transparent Color Refinishing
    • For dark old paint, first treat with paint remover, clean, and then apply a water-based wood primer before overlaying with transparent color paint (sand and dry between each coat).
  2. Direct Coverage of Old Color
    • After sanding off the smooth surface layer, apply a water-based wood primer to enhance adhesion, and then spray with solid-color paint. Recommended water-based solid-color wood paints (environmentally friendly, strong coverage) or Forest Breath water-based wood paint (anti-benzene, anti-formaldehyde).

IV. Precautions

  1. Material Adaptation: Wood, metal, fabric, and leather require corresponding paints. Test the colorfastness of fabric in advance.
  2. Safety Protection: Wear a mask and gloves during operation, keep away from fire sources; avoid heavy loads within 24 hours after drying.
  3. Environmental Requirements: For high-saturation leather dyeing, a dust-free environment is required to avoid dust affecting the effect.
