Differentiation of Office Chair Casters

Admin October 19, 2026

Office chair casters can be mainly classified into swivel casters, fixed casters, silent casters, heavy-duty casters, and carpet casters. Based on functional characteristics, they can also be divided into movable wheels and pressure wheels. Here are the detailed introductions:

Swivel Casters: These are the most common type, with the notable feature of being able to rotate flexibly in all directions. This makes it extremely convenient to move office chairs between different positions. Usually, swivel casters are equipped with brake devices. When the office chair needs to be fixed, simply step on the brake, and the casters will stop rotating, ensuring the stability of the office chair. In terms of materials, swivel casters cover a variety of options such as rubber, plastic, and metal. Casters made of different materials will have differences in performance and applicable scenarios.

Fixed Casters: Fixed casters can only roll in one direction and are generally used for office chairs with specific requirements for the direction of movement. Their structure is relatively simple, so they are relatively inexpensive. In practical applications, fixed casters are often used in combination with swivel casters. This combination not only improves the stability of the office chair but also ensures its mobility flexibility.

Silent Casters: In office spaces that require a quiet environment, such as libraries and conference rooms, silent casters play an important role. They adopt special materials and designs, generating relatively little noise during rolling. Common materials include rubber or polyurethane. These materials not only have good shock-absorbing properties but also provide excellent anti-slip properties, ensuring the safety and comfort of the office chair during use.

Heavy-Duty Casters: For office chairs that carry relatively heavy weights, such as executive chairs, heavy-duty casters are an ideal choice. Their structure is more robust, and they have a stronger load-bearing capacity. They are usually made of metal materials such as aluminum alloy and stainless steel. These metal materials can ensure the durability and stability of heavy-duty casters, meeting the needs of long-term and high-load use.

Carpet Casters: Carpet casters are specially designed for carpeted floors. The wheels have special patterns and structures on their surfaces, allowing them to roll better on carpets and not easily get stuck. The materials are generally rubber or plastic, which have good anti-slip and wear-resistant properties and can adapt to the special environment of carpeted floors.

Movable Wheels and Pressure Wheels: Movable wheels, also known as ordinary swivel wheels, can turn in any direction and can be equipped with brake devices, but generally cannot brake automatically. Pressure wheels are active when under pressure and brake automatically when not under pressure, providing more convenience and safety guarantees for the use of office chairs.
