How to Care for an Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

The care of an office chair should be carried out according to the characteristics of its materials and components. Through daily cleaning, proper usage, and regular maintenance, its service life can be extended and its appearance can be kept clean.

I. Daily Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Chair Surface Material Care

    • Mesh Material: First, use a soft-bristled brush or a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust. Then, use a damp cloth dipped in diluted detergent (such as dishwashing liquid) to wipe along the texture direction. Finally, wipe off any residue with clean water and let it air dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent material aging.
    • Leather Material: Wipe off dust with a slightly damp soft cloth. For oil stains, use a special leather cleaner. After wiping, absorb the moisture with a dry cloth. Apply a leather conditioner evenly every six months and wipe it clean. Prevent cracking and fading.
    • Fabric Material: After vacuuming or brushing off dust, use a damp cloth dipped in a mild detergent (such as laundry detergent) to gently wipe off stains. Avoid excessive pulling to prevent fabric deformation.
  2. Component Care

    • Aluminum Alloy Chair Legs: Wipe them with clean water daily and then use a semi-dry cloth to remove water stains. For stubborn stains, use a mixture of equal parts hot water and white vinegar for cleaning.
    • Armrests and Chair Frames: For plastic materials, wipe them directly with a cloth. For areas with heavy dust accumulation, combine dry and wet cleaning methods.
    • Gas Lift and Chair Back Seams: Regularly clean accumulated dust using a combination of dry and wet methods. Prevent dust buildup from affecting component flexibility.

II. Usage Habit Maintenance

  1. Handling and Usage

    • Lift and place the chair gently during handling to avoid structural damage from collisions.
    • After sitting for a long time, pat the edges of the chair surface to restore its shape and reduce indentations. Keep the center of gravity in the middle of the gas lift to avoid damage to the gas lift from tilting.
    • Regularly check if screws, springs, and knobs are loose and tighten them in a timely manner.
  2. Environment and Prohibitions

    • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to prevent plastic aging or leather fading. Light-colored chairs such as white and gray should be kept away from heat sources to prevent oxidation discoloration or material deformation.
    • It is strictly prohibited to sit on the armrests or place heavy objects on them. Avoid armrest breakage or deformation.

III. Deep Cleaning and Special Treatment

  1. Stubborn Stains

    • Mesh: Spray a special cleaner on the stains every quarter and gently brush them with a soft-bristled brush, then wipe them clean.
    • Leather: Test for fading in an inconspicuous area before cleaning. Dilute the cleaner if fading occurs.
    • Fabric: For heavy stains, gently brush them with a weak alkaline detergent and then press with a damp cloth to remove foam.
  2. Special Components

    • Mesh Computer Chairs: Pat the dust at the seams before cleaning. Wipe them with a damp sponge dipped in cleaning cream and then blow dry.
    • Leather Seat Cushions: Wipe them in the direction of the leather grain. Nano sponges can enhance the cleaning effect.

IV. Long-term Maintenance Recommendations

  1. Regularly check components such as the gas lift and screws, and tighten any loose parts in a timely manner.
  2. Adjust the spring tension according to your weight to ensure the chair back returns to its original position smoothly.
  3. Avoid using harsh detergents (such as turpentine or gasoline) during cleaning. Prevent material corrosion or discoloration.
