Office Chair Cannot Rise
If an office chair cannot rise, first identify the cause and then address it accordingly. Here are some common causes and solutions:

Hydraulic Rod Issues
If the hydraulic rod is damaged, you can replace it yourself. The price of a hydraulic rod may be around 30 yuan, and it can be purchased independently online. When replacing it, first disassemble the stool. Step on the bottom with both feet and shake it to take it off. When knocking on the pneumatic rod, knock on the surrounding circular area, not the bottom. You can use a wrench or hammer to knock hard along the edge. Replace it with a pneumatic rod of a similar size bought online. First install it on the base, then put the stool on it, and sit on it to press it tightly.
Mechanical Linkage Displacement or Gas Valve Needle Failure
- Operating Handle Displacement: If the control handle detaches from the gas valve needle inside the base, it will be unable to trigger the switch. In this case, reverse the seat and check whether the end of the control handle can accurately touch the small metal dot (needle) at the top of the pneumatic rod. If misalignment is found, use a wrench to adjust the position of the fixing screws on the base so that the handle and the needle can make accurate contact and restore the triggering function.
- Increasing the Trigger Stroke: When the handle is pressed all the way down but still cannot touch the needle, it may be due to wear and tear creating a gap. You can stick a small piece of hard gasket, such as a coin or a plastic piece, above the needle to compensate for the gap and allow the handle to trigger the needle smoothly.
- Lubrication and Cleaning: The gap around the needle may accumulate dust and dirt or lack lubrication, causing the lifting function to fail. Spray a small amount of WD - 40 or sewing machine oil into the gap around the needle, and then press the handle repeatedly several times until the needle can rebound smoothly and restore the lifting function of the office chair.
Pneumatic Rod Scrap Conditions
If the gas rod shows signs of oil leakage, automatically and slowly slides down when you sit on it, or has cracks on the outer tube, the pneumatic rod must be scrapped. These conditions indicate that the internal structure of the pneumatic rod has been severely damaged and cannot be restored to normal function through simple repairs. Continuing to use it may pose safety risks, so it should be replaced with a new pneumatic rod in a timely manner.
