Hazards of Office Chair Burst

Admin October 19, 2026

The burst of office chairs, especially the explosion of pneumatic lift chairs, poses a significant hazard, potentially causing severe personal injuries and even endangering lives.

  1. Penetrating Limb Injuries
When a pneumatic chair explodes, the high-pressure gas inside is released instantaneously, generating an extremely strong impact force. Metal pneumatic rods or internal components may fly out at high speeds, forming sharp fragments. For example, in one case, a 3-centimeter-wide steel column directly penetrated the human body's surface, and doctors removed more than ten metal fragments from the injured person's body. Such injuries often result in deep tissue damage and may even require multiple surgeries to remove all foreign objects.

  2. Severe Multi-organ Injuries
The fragments produced by the explosion may cause compound injuries to areas such as the buttocks, legs, rectum, anal canal, and small intestine. For instance, a 68-year-old man suffered multiple injuries to his buttocks, legs, and internal organs due to a pneumatic chair explosion, requiring a long surgical repair; a 14-year-old boy experienced an explosion while adjusting a pneumatic chair, with the top rod penetrating his buttocks and injuring multiple blood vessels, ultimately leading to death from excessive blood loss. These cases demonstrate that the impact force of the explosion can directly damage the human body's structure, causing irreversible physiological injuries.

  3. Increased Risk for Special Populations
Pregnant women, children, and other groups are more susceptible to severe injuries due to their special physical conditions. For example, a pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage after falling from a height due to an exploding lift chair; a 28-year-old office worker was left with a lifelong disability after a pneumatic rod penetrated his seat and severely injured his waist. These cases illustrate that pneumatic chair explosions not only cause physical harm but may also trigger a chain of health problems, such as disability and loss of fertility.

  4. Fatal Consequences
The destructive force of a pneumatic chair explosion can directly lead to death. For example, a 14-year-old boy died after a pneumatic rod pierced his body and injured major blood vessels, and he could not be rescued; in some cases, injured individuals died during transportation to the hospital or during surgery due to excessive blood loss or damage to vital organs. These tragedies highlight the fatal risks associated with quality defects in pneumatic chairs.

Prevention Recommendations: Regularly inspect the sealing of pneumatic chairs and the stability of pneumatic rods, avoid using inferior or aged products; maintain body balance when adjusting the seat and avoid sudden exertion; if abnormal noises, air leaks, or wobbling are detected in the chair, stop using it immediately and replace it.
