Broken Wheel on Office Chair
Admin October 16, 2026
Measures can be taken for broken wheels on office chairs, such as disassembly and replacement, fixing tilting issues, and preventing damage.

Disassembly and Replacement of Wheels
- Round-pin-type wheels: You can try to pull them out directly. If you don't have enough strength, there are two auxiliary methods. First, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the small gap between the wheel foot and the chair's contact point, and use it as a lever to slowly operate back and forth. Pull the wheel-foot rod out of the chair's socket by about 1 centimeter and then pull again. Second, use pliers to grip the rod and then tap it with a hammer. When installing a new wheel, simply align the pin wheel with the hole and press it in.
- Screw-fixed wheels: Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and then remove the casters. When installing new wheels, you can tap the casters into the chair's socket with a rubber mallet. Tap near the base of the stem to reduce the risk of deformation or breakage.
Fixing Tilting Issues (if caused by wheels)
- Check the wheel status: Place the chair upright and upside down to check if the wheels are level and ensure that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground. Invert the chair and carefully check the wheel feet for signs of damage. If a wheel foot is bent or deformed, the chair will tilt in that direction.
- Replace damaged wheels: If you find damaged wheels, you need to purchase a new set of matching wheels. You can contact the manufacturer and provide the chair model for ordering, or you can remove an old wheel and take it to an office supplies store to find a matching replacement set. Note that the shape and size of the wheel axle should match.
Preventing Wheel Damage
- Choose high-quality wheels: When purchasing, check parameters such as the material and load-bearing capacity of the wheels. Select wheels that are suitable for the office chair and of high quality, such as wear-resistant rubber materials. Choose wheels with an appropriate load-bearing capacity according to the weight of the office chair and the user. You can refer to other users' reviews.
- Teach proper use: Let users understand that they should move their bodies on the chair steadily and slowly without sudden exertion. When moving the chair, push it gently instead of kicking it with their feet or twisting their bodiesๅคงๅน ๅบฆ (this Chinese word means 'vigorously' or 'ๅคงๅน ๅบฆ' which can be translated as 'vigorously' here but for better flow in English we can use 'ๅคงๅน ๅบฆ's meaning in context as 'ๅคงๅน ๅบฆๆญๅจ่บซไฝ' which is 'twisting their bodies vigorously') on the chair.
- Regular inspection and maintenance: Check the wheels regularly to see if there is wear on the edges or if they are loose. Light wear can be polished gently with sandpaper, and if they are loose, tighten the fixing screws in a timely manner.
- Maintain the floor condition: Keep the floor clean and free of debris to prevent the wheels from getting stuck and increasing wear when rolling. The floor should be as flat as possible. An uneven floor will cause the wheels to bear uneven forces and accelerate wear. You can clean the floor regularly and repair any uneven areas.
