Office Chair Broken

Admin October 19, 2026

The breakage of an office chair may be caused by fatigue failure, explosion of a pneumatic lifting chair, or product quality issues. Repair methods include checking the breakage, replacing parts, and adhesive repair.

Causes of Breakage

  • Fatigue Failure: Long-term repeated loading causes fatigue in the internal structure of the material, with stress concentrating at design weaknesses or existing micro-cracks, exceeding the material's strength limit and leading to breakage. The backrest of an office chair, subjected to repeated leaning fatigue loads over time, is prone to wear and micro-cracks in components of inferior quality, ultimately breaking, often at the connection between the backrest and the base or at adjustment mechanisms.
  • Explosion of Pneumatic Lifting Chair: Unqualified quality of the pneumatic rod is a high-risk hazard. Factors such as an overly thin tube wall, poor sealing, insufficient purity or abnormal pressure of the inert gas; the absence of an explosion-proof steel plate in the chair; long-term overloading or frequent and violent lifting; and incorrect disassembly and assembly causing component damage can all lead to the sudden explosion of an inferior pneumatic rod, resulting in serious injuries.
  • Product Quality Issues: Inspections by the State Administration for Market Regulation show a relatively high failure rate in office chair products, with non-compliance in structural safety and base static load capacity being common. Additionally, the long-term use and breakage of "invisible consumables" such as aging elastic bands at the bottom of the seat can loosen the overall structure, leading to chair breakage.

Repair Methods

  • Check the Breakage: Observe the location and extent of the backrest breakage. If the screws at the connection are loose, use an appropriate screwdriver to tighten them evenly. If the main part of the backrest is broken, examine the shape and size of the breakage to determine the repair plan.
  • Replace Parts: When identifying parts that need replacement, such as a broken metal rod, take the damaged part to a hardware store to select a replacement of the same specifications. Remove the original broken metal rod, record the installation sequence and method, and install the new metal rod to ensure a secure connection. For a broken wooden strip, choose a high-quality, similarly materialed strip, cut it to the appropriate length, and fix it with wood glue or nails.
  • Adhesive Repair: For repairing cracks in a plastic backrest, first wipe clean the area around the crack to remove dust and debris. After drying, squeeze adhesive into the gap to fill it, spread it evenly to cover both sides, align the broken parts and gently press them together, maintaining a fixed position until the adhesive dries and cures, then check the repair effect.
