Dampness at the Bottom of Office Chairs
Admin October 17, 2026
Dampness at the bottom of office chairs can be addressed using the following methods, selecting the appropriate approach based on the material and degree of dampness:

I. General Treatment Methods
- Natural Ventilation and Drying Move the chair to a well-ventilated area with gentle sunlight (avoiding direct midday sun). Dry it for 2-3 hours each time, then flip it over to ensure even exposure of the damp areas to air. On rainy days, move it indoors and open windows for ventilation to prevent moisture buildup.
- Dehumidification with Tools
- Dehumidifier/Small Dehumidifying Machine: Turn it on and direct the airflow towards the chair to reduce air humidity and accelerate moisture evaporation.
- Alcohol Wiping: For wooden or leather chairs, use a dry cloth dipped in a small amount of alcohol to gently wipe the damp areas. The alcohol will carry away moisture and kill bacteria as it evaporates (avoid excessive use to prevent material damage).
- Desiccants: Place calcium chloride desiccant packs in the chair's crevices and behind the backrest (avoid direct contact with surfaces to prevent material corrosion), or use activated carbon packs or food desiccants to absorb moisture. Replace or dry them regularly.
- Hairdryer on Cool Setting: Use the cool air setting to blow air into the chair's crevices and edges, maintaining a distance of 15-20 cm to prevent local overheating that could cause material deformation or cracking.
II. Material-Specific Treatments
- Fabric Chairs
- Remove and wash detachable cushion covers with a neutral detergent, then air-dry them.
- For the backrest, use a dry cloth to repeatedly press and absorb moisture, avoiding large-area soaking.
- Use activated carbon packs or food desiccants to absorb moisture from crevices and the inner layers of cushions, drying the desiccants regularly.
- Metal Chairs
- Wipe off surface water stains and apply anti-rust oil, then place the chair in a dry corner.
- If mildew appears inside, thoroughly dry the chair, sand the mildewed areas with fine sandpaper, apply an anti-mildew agent, and air-dry it.
- Leather Chairs
- Avoid direct sunlight. Use a dry cloth to absorb surface moisture, then apply a small amount of leather care oil and air-dry it in a cool, ventilated place.
- For slight mildew, wipe with a diluted white vinegar solution, then dehumidify to prevent mildew spread.
- Wooden Chairs
- Avoid direct sunlight. Place the chair in a cool, ventilated area for half a day to disperse surface moisture.
- Do not use high temperatures during dehumidification to prevent surface cracking.
III. Daily Prevention Measures Place anti-slip pads under the chair legs to prevent direct contact with the ground and reduce the risk of moisture return. In rainy seasons or humid environments, regularly use dehumidifying tools for maintenance.
