Height Increase for Office Chair and Boss Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

Height increase for office chairs or boss chairs can be achieved by replacing the gas lift, adding a base heightening pad, using chair leg heightening accessories, or customizing a heightened seat surface. The appropriate method should be selected based on the chair's structure, material, and usage requirements, ensuring that the adjustment complies with ergonomic and safety standards.

If the chair features a pneumatic height adjustment design, replacing the gas lift with a longer one is the most direct approach. The gas lift is the core component controlling seat height adjustment, and its length determines the minimum and maximum height range of the seat. When selecting a replacement, ensure that the gas lift specifications match the original chair, including diameter, stroke (adjustable height difference), and load-bearing capacity. For example, if the original chair's gas lift has a stroke of 10cm, replacing it with a gas lift having a 15cm stroke can increase the seat's maximum height by 5cm. It is important to note that the quality of the gas lift directly affects safety; choose products certified by international standards such as SGS and BIFMA to avoid the risk of explosion caused by inferior gas lifts.

Adding a base heightening pad is a low-cost solution. If the chair's bottom is a flat structure, a dedicated heightening pad (usually made of hard plastic or metal, with a height ranging from 3-8cm) can be purchased and fixed above the original chair legs using screws or clips. This method is suitable for chairs without special designs on the legs (such as a protruding axis in the center of a five-star base). After installation, check stability to avoid tipping due to an elevated center of gravity. If the chair legs are equipped with wheels, ensure that the heightening pad is compatible with the wheels to avoid affecting smooth movement.

Using chair leg heightening accessories requires consideration of structural compatibility. Some manufacturers offer adjustable-height chair leg extenders that increase height by fitting over the original chair legs, suitable for chairs with uniform leg diameters and no complex shapes. When installing, measure the diameter of the original chair legs, select extenders with matching inner diameters, and ensure a tight and secure connection. If the chair legs have an irregular design (such as decorative lines or non-circular shapes), custom accessories may be required, which can be more costly.

Customizing a heightened seat surface requires consideration of both comfort and ergonomics. If the above methods cannot meet the requirements, contact the manufacturer or a professional repair shop to customize a heightened seat surface by increasing the thickness of the foam or adjusting the seat surface tilt angle. This method must ensure that the seat surface's angle with the backrest, lumbar support, and other designs still comply with ergonomic principles to avoid unnatural sitting postures and back fatigue caused by height changes. Before customization, it is recommended to provide the specific model and dimensions of the chair for precise matching.
