Office Chair Bending Techniques

Admin October 22, 2026

Office chair bending techniques should be selected according to specific scenarios, mainly divided into three categories: fixing tilting issues, folding portable chairs, and creating simple origami models. For actual bending of metal/plastic components, refer to the instruction manual or contact the manufacturer.

Fixing a Tilting Office Chair

Tilting issues are usually caused by damage to the wheels or seat plate and require step-by-step troubleshooting:

  1. Check wheel contact: Ensure that each wheel foot makes even contact with the ground. If the ground is uneven, adjust the chair's position or use shims to balance it.
  2. Replace damaged wheels: If the wheels are stuck, broken, or worn, purchase new wheels that match the model. Pay attention to the shape (e.g., round, square) and size of the wheel axle to avoid incompatibility.
  3. Remove and install wheels: Use a screwdriver to assist in pulling out the old wheels, or spray lubricant (such as WD-40) onto the wheel axle socket before tapping in the new wheels. Ensure the axle is fully embedded in the socket during installation to prevent loosening.
  4. Check the seat plate: If the chair still tilts after replacing the wheels, check if the seat plate is deformed or broken. Minor deformations can be fixed by adjusting screws or shims, while severe damage requires replacing the seat plate.

Folding Methods for Portable Office Chairs

Before folding, confirm that the chair's structure supports folding. The operation steps are as follows:

  1. Fold the legs: Locate the folding joints of the legs and fully retract and lock them to avoid interfering with subsequent operations in the extended state.
  2. Separate the tabletop from the legs: If the tabletop and legs are detachable, separate them first; if they are integrated, skip this step.
  3. Fold the legs diagonally: Place the chair flat on the ground and fold the legs diagonally one by one, ensuring the folding direction is consistent to avoid jamming.
  4. Secure the structure: Fold the diagonal edges over the legs and secure them with clips or locks to ensure the chair remains stable and does not come apart after folding.

Simple Origami Office Chair (Non-functional)

This method is only suitable for handmade models and requires square origami paper:

  1. Basic folding: Fold the four corners of the paper to the center point to form a small square; flip it over and repeat the folding to further reduce the size.
  2. Shape the chair structure: Adjust the origami into the outline of a chair, such as the seat plate, backrest, and legs, through flattening and folding operations.
  3. Secure the shape: Use glue or double-sided tape to fix key folds and enhance the model's stability.

If you need to actually bend the metal or plastic components of an office chair (such as adjusting the backrest angle), it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact the manufacturer for professional guidance to avoid damaging the components or causing safety hazards due to improper operation.
