Office Chair Bearing Wobble
Admin October 10, 2026
Office chair bearing wobble is usually caused by loose, worn, or damaged bearings. It can be repaired by checking and tightening, replacing components, strengthening welding, applying lubricant, etc. Meanwhile, preventive measures such as regular inspections should be taken.

Repair Methods
- Check and tighten screws: If the bearing is installed using screw fixation and wobbles, first check whether the screws at the connections of the backrest, armrests, base, and chair legs are loose. Long-term stress or frequent wobbling can cause the screws to loosen, resulting in gaps between components. Use a screwdriver to tighten the loose screws, which can eliminate the wobble caused by loose screws.
- Replace worn bearings: Bearings can wear out over time or due to other factors, leading to increased clearance and wobbling. In this case, the bearings should be replaced promptly. Purchase a product with the same model as the original bearing and follow the disassembly and installation instructions to ensure proper installation of the new bearing and restore the stability of the office chair.
- Strengthen welds: For bearings fixed by welding, if the welds become loose or develop cracks, it can cause the bearing to wobble. Before re-welding, thoroughly clean the original welds and then weld according to standard welding procedures to ensure welding quality and enhance the stability of the bearing.
- Apply lubricant: For chairs with a rocking and reclining function, if the lubricant at the internal metal springs and pivot points dries up, metal-to-metal friction and squeezing can cause wobbling. Applying a small amount of lubricant to the metal pivots and connection gaps can reduce friction and eliminate the wobbling phenomenon.
Preventive Measures
- Regular inspections: Regularly inspect the bearings of the office chair to check for loose screws, worn bearings, etc. Once a problem is detected, deal with it promptly to prevent the problem from worsening and causing increased bearing wobble.
- Proper use and maintenance: Avoid overusing or abusing the office chair to reduce bearing wear. Also, keep the chair clean and dry to prevent dust and moisture from damaging the bearings and extend their service life.
- Choose a reliable office chair: When purchasing an office chair, opt for a product with reliable quality and a well-known brand. High-quality office chairs excel in design, materials, and workmanship, effectively reducing problems such as bearing wobble.
