Office Chair Base Replacement

Admin October 19, 2026

The replacement of an office chair base can be carried out following these steps:

I. Removing the Old Base

  1. Prepare Tools: Preferably use a rubber mallet. If using a regular hammer, prepare a towel for cushioning to avoid damaging the paint on the base during striking. Also, prepare screwdrivers and other tools for removing fixed screws.
  2. Flip the Chair: Invert the office chair so that the seat faces downward and place it on a stable surface to ensure the chair does not slide or tip over during the operation.
  3. Separate the Seat from the Base: Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws that fix the bottom tray to the seat, completely separating the seat from the base assembly. Be sure to keep the removed screws to avoid losing them.
  4. Strike to Remove the Base: Hold the base assembly with one hand and use a rubber mallet (or a hammer cushioned with a towel) to strike vertically at the connection point between the edge of the base and the support frame. Apply even and moderate force. After several strikes, the clips or fixed structure between the base and the support frame will gradually loosen until completely separated. If the base is severely rusted, you can spray a small amount of lubricant to assist in removal.

II. Installing the New Base

  1. Clean the Connection Area: Use a dry cloth or a small brush to remove dust, rust, or old adhesive residue from the base support frame to ensure a flat and clean surface for installing the new base and avoid instability due to impurities.
  2. Match the New Base: Select a new base that matches the model of the original base. Check whether the screw holes, gas rod interface, and other structures of the base match the support frame to avoid damage caused by forced installation.
  3. Align and Install: Align the new base with the installation position on the support frame, press lightly to make it initially fit, and then manually rotate the base to adjust the angle to ensure that the gas rod hole is aligned with the center of the support frame.
  4. Fix and Calibrate:
    • Reinstall the fixed screws for the seat and the base, tighten them crosswise in multiple passes to avoid excessive force on one side causing the base to tilt.
    • After installation, place the chair upright and repeatedly adjust its verticality. Test the stability of the base by gently shaking it. If wobbling is detected, recheck the tightness of the screws or the matching of the base.

III. Precautions

  • It is recommended to wear gloves before operation to prevent scratches from screws or shocks from striking.
  • If the base and the support frame are connected by clips, pay attention to the direction of the clips during removal to avoid breaking plastic parts due to violent pulling.
  • After installation, test whether the chair's lifting and rotating functions are normal to ensure that the new base has no jamming or abnormal noise.
