Office Chair Backrest Tightness Adjustment

Admin October 11, 2026

The tightness of an office chair backrest can be adjusted according to the type of chair. Here are the specific methods:

Knob Adjustment Type

A control knob can usually be found on the side or bottom of an office chair. When the backrest is too tight, turn the knob counterclockwise, and the backrest will gradually loosen. You can then lean back against the backrest and adjust it to your desired angle based on the amount of force you apply. This adjustment method is relatively simple and straightforward, allowing for precise control of the backrest's tightness through the rotation of the knob.

Pneumatic Rod Adjustment Type

There is an adjustment lever beneath the chair. To adjust the backrest, pull the adjustment lever upward, then lean your body backward, and the backrest will tilt backward along with your body's movement. Once you find a comfortable angle, release the adjustment lever, and the backrest will be fixed at that angle. If you want to return the backrest to its original angle, pull the adjustment lever upward again, sit upright forward, and the backrest will return to its original position. This adjustment method enables flexible changes in the backrest angle to meet usage needs in different scenarios.

Handle Adjustment Type

Some office chairs are equipped with handles on the outer sides of the seats. Pull the handle upward, and the backrest can tilt backward; push the handle downward, and the backrest will return to its forward position. This adjustment method is convenient to operate, allowing you to complete the adjustment of the backrest angle simply by pulling or pushing the handle.

Base Cylindrical Knob Adjustment

There is a cylindrical knob on the base. Turn the knob clockwise, and the rebound support force of the backrest will increase; turn it counterclockwise, and the rebound support force will decrease. Users can make adjustments according to their own preferences and physical needs to achieve a more comfortable sitting experience.

In addition, if the component that controls the backward tilt has a tab at the insertion point of the pneumatic rod and it becomes less responsive due to long-term use, you can pull out the pneumatic rod and apply some lubricating oil. It may also be that the screws were tightened too much during assembly, in which case you can disassemble the chair, reassemble it, and adjust the screws. If the backrest cannot be adjusted, first check the wired remote control switch. If it does not close automatically after being opened, the wired remote control may be loose, broken, or disengaged. You can adjust the position of the nut on the wired remote control, replace the wired remote control, or reattach the wired remote control terminal.
