Office Chair Backrest Replacement
Admin October 11, 2026
Office chair backrest replacement should be carried out according to the connection method. Here are the common types and steps:

Snap-on Backrest
- Prepare tools: Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver (for hidden snaps), gloves (to prevent scratches).
- Observe the structure: Turn the chair upside down and place it on a soft surface (such as a carpet). Check both sides or the bottom of the backrest for plastic snaps. Some may require pressing the white snaps on both sides.
- Remove the backrest: Press down on one snap with one hand and gently lift the backrest with the other hand. You will hear a 'click' sound when it is detached. If you cannot lift it, check for hidden snaps and avoid using excessive force.
- Install the new backrest: Align it with the snap positions and press down until you hear a 'click' sound to confirm it is properly installed.
Screw-fixed Backrest
- Prepare tools: Screwdrivers (Phillips/flat-head), wrenches (open-end or adjustable wrench).
- Locate the screws: Check the bottom or sides of the backrest. Some may require removing decorative covers to expose the screws.
- Remove the screws: Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen all the fixing screws (no need to remove them completely). Hold both sides of the backrest and lift it vertically to detach it. Store the screws separately to prevent loss.
- Install the new backrest: Align it with the installation position and use a screwdriver to tighten all the screws in sequence to ensure it is firmly fixed.
Gas-lift Connected Backrest (Some Ergonomic Chairs)
- Confirm the gas-lift position: The backrest is connected to the seat base via a gas lift. Some gas lifts have adjustment knobs.
- Unlock the adjustment knob: Adjust the backrest to a vertical position and turn the knob on the bottom or side to the 'unlock' position.
- Remove the backrest: Hold both sides of the backrest and pull it upwards to remove it from the gas lift (some may require removing the base cover first).
- Install the new backrest: Align the gas lift of the new backrest with the gas-lift hole on the base and press down firmly to ensure a secure connection.
Precautions:
- If the chair has electric adjustment functions, be sure to unplug the power supply first to avoid the risk of electric shock.
- If the plastic snaps or screws are rusty, spray rust remover before disassembly to prevent damage to the parts.
- For branded office chairs, it is recommended to refer to the 'Disassembly Guide' in the product manual to avoid invalidating the warranty due to incorrect operations.
