Solutions for Office Chair Backrest Reclining Issues
If the backrest of an office chair fully reclines and cannot rebound, choose the corresponding solution based on the chair type:

1. Metal Adjustment Lever Type (Common in Pneumatic Lift Chairs)
This type of device is usually located at the connection between the seat and the backrest, controlling the backrest angle through air pressure. If the backrest cannot rebound, first straighten the backrest and then continuously press the metal adjustment lever 5-6 times. During pressing, the air pressure will gradually be released and redistributed, allowing the backrest to regain its elasticity. If there is still no response after the operation, it may be due to aging or air leakage of the internal seals in the pneumatic rod, and you need to contact after-sales service to replace the pneumatic rod.
2. Knob-Adjustable Chair
The knob is usually located at the bottom right of the chair and is circular. If the backrest is stuck, first turn the knob all the way clockwise and then turn it back about 45 degrees to test the rebound force of the backrest. If there is significant resistance or sticking during rotation, it may be due to worn gears or lack of lubrication inside the knob. In this case, completely unscrew the knob, apply a small amount of lubricating oil (such as WD-40 or silicone-based lubricant) to the threads, and then reinstall it and test the function.
3. Cable-Controlled Lever Type (Common in High-End Models)
Some high-end ergonomic chairs use a cable-controlled lever design, requiring both devices on both sides of the seat to be pulled up simultaneously to activate the automatic return function. If operated on one side only or if the lever is not fully pulled up, the backrest may not be able to reset. When operating, ensure that both hands pull up the levers on both sides simultaneously, hold for 2-3 seconds, and then release. The backrest should automatically rebound to its initial position. If it is still ineffective, check whether the cable-control connection wire is loose or broken.
4. Anti-Recline Buckle Detachment
There are usually two plastic buckles at the connection between the metal support frame (five-star base) at the bottom of the chair and the gas column, used to fix the anti-recline device. If the buckles are detached or damaged, the backrest may lose control and fully recline. In this case, check whether the buckles are in place. If they are missing, contact the manufacturer for replacement. When installing, ensure that the buckles are fully inserted into the corresponding slots and test whether the backrest adjustment function is normal.
5. Backrest Tension Memory System (New Ergonomic Chairs)
Some high-end ergonomic chairs are equipped with a backrest tension memory system, which requires specific steps to adjust the maximum recline angle. When adjusting, first sit firmly in the chair, recline the backrest to the maximum angle, and then set the maximum recline angle using the knob below the backrest. If the system is not properly calibrated, the backrest may not be able to rebound or the rebound force may be insufficient. In this case, repeat the above steps to ensure that the knob is adjusted properly and test the stability of the backrest at different angles.
