Office Chair Backrest Recline

Admin October 17, 2026

The adjustment methods for reclining the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the chair's type and design. Common adjustment mechanisms include lever adjustment systems, knob adjustment systems, and pneumatic adjustment systems, with specific operations as follows:

Lever Adjustment System: First, locate the adjustment lever, usually positioned near the right or left side beneath the seat. If the chair has a recline lock feature, gently pull up or push the lever to release the lock. Then, slowly lean back while adjusting the lever to achieve a comfortable recline angle for the backrest. If you need to fix the angle, operate the lever again to lock it in place. Some chairs may feature a segmented lever design, so refer to the instruction manual to confirm the specific operation direction.

Knob Adjustment System: The knob is generally located near the central support column at the bottom of the seat. Turning it clockwise increases the resistance of the backrest when reclining, suitable for users with a heavier weight or those requiring stable support; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, facilitating easy reclining. Some high-end chairs are equipped with an independent knob for adjusting the range of recline angles, in which case refer to the product manual for precise settings. Avoid applying excessive force during adjustment to prevent damage to the knob.

Pneumatic Adjustment System: The pneumatic lever is usually integrated with the height adjustment lever, and different directions of pushing achieve functional switching. When using it, gently pull the lever while leaning back to adjust the backrest angle, and it will automatically lock in place when the lever is released. This type of system is commonly found in modern ergonomic chairs, offering smooth operation and natural angle transitions. However, be cautious not to apply sudden external force during adjustment to avoid affecting the lifespan of the pneumatic rod.

Other Common Operation Points:

  1. Unlocking and Locking: Some chairs have a handle on the right side; pulling it up allows the backrest to move freely, and pushing it back locks the angle. Pulling out the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion enables reclining, and pushing it in locks it.
  2. Spring Force Adjustment: The cylindrical knob on the chassis can control the rebound force of the backrest when reclining. Turning it clockwise increases the support force, and turning it counterclockwise decreases it, suitable for users of different body types.
  3. Returning to Upright Position: Pull the control lever outward and gently push the backrest to return to the upright position, then push the control lever back to lock it in place, preventing accidental reclining during use.

When adjusting, keep your body relaxed and avoid applying rapid force to prevent damage to the mechanical structure. If you encounter difficulties in operation, it is advisable to consult the product manual or contact after-sales service for targeted guidance.
