Office Chair Backrest Production

Admin October 10, 2026

The production process of an office chair backrest mainly includes four key steps: frame welding, padding and covering, leather processing and stitching, and overall assembly.

Firstly, frame welding is the foundational step in backrest production. Based on the design drawings, workers use metal materials (such as steel pipes) to weld the backrest frame of the chair. This frame must include lumbar supports, armrest sections, and other necessary components. During the welding process, it is essential to ensure that the frame structure is stable and that the dimensions of each component are precise to support subsequent padding materials and the weight of the human body. For example, the position of the lumbar support must conform to ergonomic design to provide waist support; the welding angle of the armrests must be coordinated with the overall chair to ensure comfort during use.

Secondly, the padding and covering step directly affects the comfort of the backrest. On the welded backrest frame, workers first add a layer of cardboard as a base support, then cover it with a layer of foam material to enhance softness. The outermost layer is covered with a leather sleeve, which must be pre-processed (such as cutting and sanding) to ensure a smooth surface. Some high-end products employ layered padding technology: the main body of the backrest uses softer foam to conform to the curvature of the back, while the edges or support areas use higher-density foam to enhance stability.

Thirdly, leather processing and stitching are crucial steps in enhancing the quality of the backrest. The leather must first be precisely cut along the template shape and then stitched together with foam materials of different densities. During the stitching process, attention must be paid to the density of the stitches and the flatness of the thread to prevent the leather from wrinkling or the padding from shifting. For example, the central area of the backrest may use a single layer of soft foam, while the edges may be layered with hard foam to enhance support. During stitching, it is essential to ensure that the two materials are tightly bonded.

Finally, overall assembly completes the final form of the backrest. Workers install the pre-processed headrest (if applicable) and armrests onto the backrest and secure them using screws, clips, or welding. After assembly, functional tests are conducted to check whether the backrest tilt angle, headrest adjustment range, and armrest height meet the design requirements, ensuring that the product conforms to ergonomic standards and is durable.
