Office Chair Backrest Not Rebounding

Admin October 12, 2026

The failure of an office chair backrest to rebound may be caused by the locking function being enabled, mechanical jamming, airbag failure, or damage to the adjustment mechanism, and targeted troubleshooting can resolve the issue.

If the chair has a reclining function and the backrest has a locking design, the locking function being enabled is a common cause. Check the status of the control lever or wired switch beneath the seat. For lever controls, pulling down usually locks the backrest, and pulling out unlocks it. For wired switches, confirm whether the switch closes automatically. If it does not close, it may be due to the wired switch being loose, broken, or detached. You can try reattaching the terminal or adjusting the nut position to restore functionality.

Mechanical jamming can also cause the backrest to fail to rebound. If the seat switch is not reset or foreign objects (such as coins or keys) are stuck in the slide rails, they can obstruct movement. First, check whether the switch is in its normal position, and then clean any foreign objects from the slide rails. If the foreign objects are stuck tightly, you can try gently patting the backrest to use vibrations to dislodge the objects and restore the chair's flexibility.

Airbag failure is the main cause of non-rebounding in airbag-equipped chairs. Air leakage can lead to insufficient air pressure, so it is essential to check whether the air control valve and transfer switch at the bottom of the seat are functioning correctly. If air leakage or component damage is detected, contact a professional repair shop for air replenishment or replacement of damaged components. Avoid self-operation to prevent safety hazards.

Damage to the adjustment mechanism should not be overlooked. A loose handle or a failed gas cylinder can cause the chair to lose its elastic adjustment capability. First, try rotating theๅบ•็›˜ (chassis) knob clockwise to increase elasticity. If the gas cylinder is completely unresponsive (e.g., unable to lift or recline), it indicates that the gas cylinder is damaged and needs to be replaced with a new one. When replacing, it is recommended to choose accessories that match the original model to ensure compatibility and safety.

During daily use, it is advisable to avoid violent operation of the chair, regularly clean the slide rails, and check the status of components. This can extend the chair's lifespan and reduce the occurrence of faults. If the issue remains unresolved after troubleshooting, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel for further inspection and repair.
