Office Chair Backrest Locking
If there are issues with the backrest locking of an office chair, you can try the following solutions:

Adjust the Adjustment Handle or Lever
Most office chairs are equipped with a handle or lever specifically for adjusting the backrest, located beneath the chair or at the rear of the seat. If the backrest fails to lock, first push the adjustment handle in to see if normal locking functionality can be restored. To adjust the backrest angle, press and hold the handle while applying backward pressure with your back. Release the handle once the desired angle is reached, and the backrest should remain fixed at that angle. Alternatively, while seated, locate the adjustment lever at the rear of the seat, pull it, lean back slightly with your back, and then release the lever; the backrest should now be fixed at the adjusted angle. To return to an upright position, pull the lever again, apply slight pressure with your back, and the backrest will spring back.
Replace the Seat Base
If the chair has an adjustment lever, first recline the chair and then reset the lever to lock it. To return to an upright position, simply move the adjustment lever. If the backrest locking issue persists after these steps, there may be a malfunction with the seat base, in which case consider replacing it.
Contact the Seller or Manufacturer
High-quality computer chairs often come with a warranty period of three to five years. If self-adjustment does not resolve the issue, contact the seller or manufacturer from whom you purchased the chair for telephone-guided repair instructions. If telephone guidance is not feasible due to technical or tool limitations and the chair is still under warranty, the cost of sending it back for repair is typically covered by the seller or manufacturer. This situation usually involves a base issue that requires prompt attention to avoid affecting the user experience and the chair's lifespan.
Reclining and Locking Methods for Some Office Chairs
For certain specially designed office chairs, to unlock the reclining function, locate the handle on the right-hand side and gently pull it; the backrest will then unlock and move freely. To lock the reclining angle, use the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion: pull it out to recline freely, find the desired angle, and then gently push it in to lock. To return to an upright position, pull the control lever outward, apply a slight push with your back, and the chair will straighten up; then push the lever back in to lock the upright position.
