Office Chair Backrest Fabric
Common types of office chair backrest fabrics include mesh, leather, velvet, as well as special fabrics such as elastic milk silk, sandwich mesh, and 3D mesh, with different materials varying in performance, applicable scenarios, and comfort.

Mesh is one of the most commonly used fabrics for office chair backrests, with its core advantage being excellent breathability. Mesh is typically woven from polyester fibers or nylon, forming a dense mesh structure on the surface that allows air to circulate freely, effectively reducing the stuffy feeling caused by contact between the back and the chair surface, making it especially suitable for long hours of desk work or summer use. Additionally, mesh has good elasticity, providing moderate support according to changes in sitting posture, but it should be noted that its abrasion resistance is relatively weak, and local sagging may occur after long-term use.
Leather fabric is characterized by abrasion resistance and easy cleaning, commonly found in high-end office chairs. Natural leather (such as top-grain cowhide) has a soft texture and moderate breathability, but it is more expensive; synthetic leather (such as PU leather) has lower costs and excellent waterproof and stain-resistant properties, requiring only a damp cloth for cleaning. However, leather has weaker breathability than mesh, and may feel sticky in summer, and it is prone to aging and cracking when exposed to sunlight for long periods, so it should be kept away from direct sunlight.
Velvet fabric is renowned for its softness and comfort, typically made from polyester or cotton-blend materials, with fine surface fibers and a gentle touch, enhancing the enveloping feel of the seat. However, velvet is more difficult to clean, as dust tends to adhere to the fibers, requiring regular vacuuming; at the same time, its breathability is poor, and bacteria may breed in humid environments, making it more suitable for dry, low-frequency office scenarios.
Among special fabrics, elastic milk silk combines the softness of natural fibers with the elasticity of chemical fibers, offering a smooth touch and good resilience; sandwich mesh enhances support through a three-layer structure (top mesh + middle sponge + bottom mesh), balancing breathability and comfort; 3D mesh uses three-dimensional weaving technology to form three-dimensional air channels, offering better breathability than ordinary mesh and stronger tear resistance, commonly used in high-end ergonomic chairs.
When choosing an office chair backrest fabric, it is necessary to comprehensively consider usage frequency, ambient temperature and humidity, cleaning needs, and budget. For example, those who work long hours or are prone to sweating should prioritize mesh; those in humid areas or low-frequency use scenarios can choose velvet; those seeking durability and having sufficient budget can choose leather; and those with high support requirements can consider 3D mesh or sandwich mesh.
