Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chair Backrest
Admin October 09, 2026
The disassembly and assembly of an office chair backrest require selecting the appropriate method based on the fixing method. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Disassembly Steps
Prepare Tools
- Basic tools: Wrench, Phillips screwdriver (selected according to the fixing method).
- Special tools: If the backrest has hidden snaps, prepare a flat-head screwdriver (for prying open the snaps) and gloves (to prevent scratches).
Determine the Fixing Method
- Snap-on type: The backrest is connected to the seat via plastic snaps, commonly found in simple office chairs.
- Screw-fixed type: The backrest is fixed to the base or frame with screws, often seen in chairs with adjustable backrests.
Disassembly of Snap-on Backrest
- Flip the chair and place it upside down on a soft surface (such as a carpet) to avoid scratching the surface.
- Look for plastic snaps on the sides or bottom of the backrest. Some may require pressing the white snaps on both sides to unlock.
- Operation Tips: Press one hand on the snap and gently lift the backrest upward with the other hand. A clicking sound indicates separation. If lifting is difficult, check for hidden snaps and avoid using excessive force to prevent snap breakage.
Disassembly of Screw-fixed Backrest
- Flip the chair and locate the hidden screws at the bottom or sides of the backrest (some may require removing decorative covers).
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen all the fixing screws in sequence (no need to remove them completely to prevent parts from scattering).
- Operation Tips: Once the screws are loose, hold both sides of the backrest and lift it vertically away from the base. Store the disassembled screws separately to prevent loss.
II. Assembly Steps
Insert the Bracket
- Align the backrest bracket with the slot on the chair base and slowly insert it, ensuring the screw holes are aligned (note that the screw length should match the original accessories).
Fix the Screws
- Manually rotate the screws to initially connect the backrest to the base, then use a tool to tighten them to an appropriate level (avoid over-tightening to prevent plastic parts from cracking).
Adjust the Clamping
- If the chair backrest supports angle adjustment, follow the manufacturer's instructions to adjust the clamping force, ensuring comfortable and stable use.
III. Testing and Precautions
Assembly Test
- Flip the chair and check if the seat and backrest align properly and if the backrest is fixed without wobbling. Gently shake the backrest to test its stability and ensure there is no looseness or abnormal noise.
Safety Precautions
- Keep children away during disassembly to prevent injury from parts; wear gloves throughout the operation to avoid hand injuries.
- If encountering complex structures (such as pneumatic rod connections), refer to the product manual or contact after-sales service to prevent damage caused by misoperation.
Tip: The design of office chairs may vary among different brands. If the steps do not match the actual situation, prioritize following the product manual.
