Disassembly of Office Chair Backrest
Admin October 11, 2026
The disassembly of an office chair backrest requires selecting the appropriate method based on the connection type. Here are the common types and their operating steps:

I. Snap-Button Backrest (Simple Office Chairs)
- Flip the Chair: Place the chair upside down on a soft surface (such as a carpet) to avoid scratching the seat or floor.
- Locate the Snap Buttons: Check both sides of the bottom of the backrest or the underside of the back for plastic snap buttons. Some snap buttons require pressing the white buttons on both sides, while hidden snap buttons can be unlocked by gently pressing the elastic part with a screwdriver.
- Separate the Backrest: Hold down the snap button with one hand and slowly lift the backrest upward with the other hand. A clicking sound indicates separation. If lifting is difficult, check for any hidden snap buttons that have not been unlocked. Do not force it.
II. Screw-Fixed Backrest (Solid Wood/Metal Frame Chairs)
- Find the Screws: Observe the connection between the backrest and the seat, focusing on the plastic covers at the bottom of the seat or the inside of the backrest. Use a screwdriver to pry open the plastic covers and expose the hidden screws.
- Remove the Screws: Use a Phillips screwdriver or an Allen wrench to unscrew all the fixing screws. Keep small parts such as washers and nuts to avoid losing them.
- Separate the Structure: Once the screws are fully loosened, hold both sides of the backrest and lift it vertically or pull it horizontally outward. Some models may require tilting the seat to a specific angle before separation.
III. Gas Cylinder-Connected Backrest (Ergonomic Chairs)
- Identify the Gas Cylinder Location: The backrest is connected to the seat base via a gas cylinder, and some gas cylinders have adjustment knobs.
- Unlock the Gas Cylinder: Adjust the backrest to a vertical position and turn the knob at the bottom or side to the โunlockโ position. If the gas cylinder is covered by a protective plate, remove the plate first.
- Pull Out the Backrest: Hold both sides of the backrest with both hands and pull it upward evenly to remove it from the gas cylinder. If there is significant resistance, gently shake the backrest from side to side to assist in separation.
General Precautions
- Tool Preparation: Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver (for hidden snap buttons), wrench, gloves (to prevent scratches).
- Safe Operation: Disconnect the power for electrically adjustable seats; for gas cylinder types, there is no need to release gas, but avoid violent disassembly that may damage the gas cylinder.
- Rust Prevention: If the snap buttons or screws are rusty, spray rust remover and wait 5-10 minutes before disassembly.
- Part Management: Classify and store the removed screws and washers. It is recommended to use containers or paper bags for storage.
- Child Safety: Keep children away during operation to prevent small parts from being swallowed or causing scratches.
- Manual Reference: For branded office chairs, refer to the โDisassembly Guideโ in the manual first. Some models have special structures (such as integrated gas cylinders that require disassembly of the base).
Additional Notes for Special Scenarios: For car seat backrest trim panels, use a long flat-head screwdriver to insert into the gap and lift upward to release the side hooks; when installing the backrest, align the bracket slots with the base screw holes and tighten them before testing stability. Adjust the steps according to the actual structure.
