Office Chair Backrest Design
Office chair backrest designs are diverse, with common types including integrated single-back and ergonomic S-shaped designs, each with its own characteristics.

Integrated Single-Back Design
The integrated single-back design is a relatively common form for office chair backrests. Taking the Herman Miller Sayl classic model as an example, it adopts this design. The advantage of this design is that when the user leans back, the chair back provides a good sense of integrated support for the waist and back. It feels like being gently supported by a unified structure, allowing both the waist and back to experience uniform support force and reducing discomfort caused by excessive local pressure. The chair back material is usually soft plastic, which has a certain degree of elasticity and flexibility. It can not only ensure the stability of the chair back's shape but also deform appropriately when the user leans back, fitting the curve of the human back and providing a comfortable leaning experience. Moreover, soft plastic material is relatively durable and not easily damaged, able to withstand various frictions and collisions during daily use and extend the service life of the office chair.
Ergonomic S-Shaped Design
Some believe that the S-shaped backrest is the optimal solution for support. This design concept is based on the natural physiological curve of the human spine. The human spine is not straight but has a certain curved shape, with a forward curve at the waist and a backward curve at the back. The S-shaped office chair backrest mimics this natural curve, providing a reverse curve for the back above the waist curve. When the user sits on the chair, the S-shaped backrest can perfectly fit the human spine, providing strong support for the waist, reducing the pressure on the lumbar spine, and preventing waist fatigue and injury. At the same time, it can also provide good support for the back, keeping the back naturally straight and avoiding problems such as hunchback caused by poor sitting posture for a long time. This design conforms to ergonomic principles, can adapt to the human physiological structure to the greatest extent, and improve the user's comfort and work efficiency.
