Office Chair Backrest Adjustment
Admin October 22, 2026
Office chair backrest adjustment mainly involves angle adjustment and height adjustment, with specific operation steps as follows:

Angle Adjustment
- Operation Method: Most office chairs are equipped with knobs, levers, or handles on the side or bottom of the seat. For example, after pulling the handle on the right side, lean back slightly with your back to adjust the angle, and it will automatically lock when released; some chairs require continuous pressing of the adjustment button while moving the backrest.
- Applicable Scenarios:
- 90ยฐ: Vertical position, suitable for focused office work, maintaining the natural curves of the lumbar and cervical spine, reducing fatigue.
- 100ยฐ: Slightly reclined, suitable for surfing the internet, reading, or taking short breaks, relieving shoulder and neck pressure.
- 125ยฐ: Semi-reclined position, suitable for midday naps, distributing body weight and reducing the burden on the lumbar spine.
- 155ยฐ: Nearly flat, some high-end chairs support this angle, suitable for deep rest, but ensure the stability of the chair.
- Precautions: Avoid sudden force during adjustment to prevent damage to the mechanical structure; when reclining at a large angle, confirm whether the chair is equipped with a locking function to prevent sliding.
Height Adjustment
- Operation Method: The backrest of some chairs can be moved up and down, and the adjustment lever is usually located at the back or side of the backrest. Pull up the adjustment lever, slide the backrest up or down to the desired position, and release it to secure it.
- Support Principle: After adjustment, ensure that the top of the backrest aligns with the lower edge of the scapula, and the lumbar support area fits the curve of the lumbar spine to avoid gaps that may cause the waist to hang in the air.
- Advanced Functions: High-end ergonomic chairs (such as models equipped with 4D lumbar supports) can individually adjust the height (usually within a range of 6 centimeters) and front-back position (within a range of 4 centimeters) of the lumbar support, achieving precise support through gas rods or knobs to adapt to different body types.
Other Functional Adjustments
- Reclining and Rocking Functions: Some chairs have a lever under the right armrest. Pulling it allows the backrest to be fully reclined; the black cylinder in front of the gas rod can be rotated to adjust the front-back rocking amplitude, suitable for dynamic sitting postures.
- Safety Tips: Before adjustment, confirm the weight-bearing capacity of the chair to avoid overloading; regularly check the tightness of screws and gas rods to prevent looseness that may cause safety hazards.
Through reasonable adjustment, office chairs can significantly improve sitting comfort, reducing the risk of lumbar muscle strain and cervical spine diseases. If discomfort persists after adjustment, it is recommended to check whether the chair conforms to ergonomic design or consult professional after-sales service for adjustment.
