Office Chair Back Lock

Admin October 17, 2026

The methods for locking the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the chair type and design. Common operating methods are as follows:

  1. Knob Type
Some office chairs have a circular knob located beneath the seat or at the back of the seat surface. Turning it clockwise increases the backrest resistance until it locks. To unlock, turn it counterclockwise to restore the adjustment function. This design is commonly found in traditional office chairs. When operating, be mindful of the turning force to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force.

  2. Lever Type
The lever is usually located on the side or beneath the chair. To lock the backrest, move the lever to the โ€œlockโ€ marked position. To unlock, move the lever back to its original position. This design is common in mid-to-low-end office chairs. Pay attention to the clarity of the lever markings to avoid misoperation.

  3. Button Type
Some computer chairs are equipped with a dedicated button. Pressing the button locks the backrest's recline angle. To unlock, press the button again or combine it with other actions (such as leaning back). This design is often found in ergonomic chairs. Be mindful of the button's sensitivity to avoid locking failure due to sticking.

  4. Under-Seat Rod Type
Many computer chairs have a recline locking mechanism located beneath the seat, usually a rod that can be moved up and down. Pulling it up unlocks the backrest, allowing free adjustment of the angle; pushing it down locks it in place at the current angle. Ensure the rod is fully engaged during operation to avoid safety hazards caused by partial locking.

  5. Operation Near the Armrests
High-end or specially designed office chairs may integrate the recline lock near the armrests, using buttons or knobs for locking/unlocking. For such designs, refer to the specific instruction manual. When operating, keep the armrest area clean to prevent debris from getting stuck and causing functional issues.

If the backrest still cannot be locked after following the above operations, it is recommended to consult the product manual or contact the manufacturer for technical support first. If the chair's backrest suddenly fails to lock, try the following method: After leaning back to the desired position, press the button once and lean back slightly. A โ€œclickโ€ sound indicates successful locking. This method is suitable for temporary failures caused by mechanical wear or spring failure, but long-term failure still requires professional repair.
