Office Chair Back Glue Failure
When the back of an office chair comes unglued, it is necessary to select a specialized adhesive based on the material properties of the components and follow proper application procedures. There are differences in repair methods between wooden components and plastic-metal components.

For unglued wooden components, strong adhesives, universal adhesives, or woodworking-specific adhesives can be used for repair. The specific operation steps are as follows:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure that the chair surface is dry and clean. Use sandpaper or a cleaning cloth to remove dust, impurities, and residual adhesive traces to avoid affecting the bonding effect.
- Adhesive Application and Bonding: Follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. Typically, apply the adhesive evenly to the surface of one piece of wood, quickly bond the two pieces together, and adjust them to the correct position to prevent misalignment that could lead to secondary ungluing.
- Pressure Application and Fixation: Use clamps or heavy objects (such as books or wooden blocks) to press down on the bonded area, ensuring full contact between the bonding surfaces. The pressure should be evenly distributed to avoid local loosening.
- Drying and Post-Treatment: Allow the adhesive to set for more than 24 hours according to its properties. After the adhesive has fully cured, check the bonding strength. If there are gaps or unevenness, sand them down and use a paint that matches the wood color for repair.
For unglued plastic and metal components, modified acrylate adhesives should be used. Their high initial bond strength and peel resistance can meet the bonding requirements of rigid materials. The following points should be noted during application:
- Surface Preparation: Use alcohol or a specialized cleaning agent to remove grease and dust, and lightly sand the bonding surface with sandpaper to increase surface roughness and expand the effective bonding area.
- Adhesive Application Control: The adhesive layer thickness should be uniform. Avoid applying too much adhesive, which can lead to shrinkage voids, or too little, which may not form a continuous bonding layer. It is recommended to use a scraper or adhesive gun to assist with application.
- Curing Conditions: After bonding, continuously apply even pressure (such as using clamps) and strictly follow the curing time and temperature-humidity requirements specified in the product technical instructions (e.g., curing for 24 hours at room temperature of 25ยฐC).
Long-Term Stability Guarantee: The durability of the bonding effect depends on the adhesive's resistance to environmental factors. In humid or high-ultraviolet environments, it is necessary to select specialized adhesives with anti-aging ingredients (such as silicone adhesives) or add mechanical fastening methods such as screws or rivets in non-aesthetically critical areas as redundant safeguards.
