Office Chair Back Cleaning
Admin October 22, 2026
The cleaning of office chair backs should be carried out according to the material, as detailed below:

I. Cleaning Methods by Material Type
Genuine Leather Chair Backs
- Wipe along the leather grain with a soft, dry cloth to avoid scratching the surface.
- For stubborn stains, lightly dab with a small amount of neutral leather cleaner. Do not use strong alkaline cleaners such as alcohol or soapy water to prevent the leather from hardening and cracking.
- After cleaning, use a dry cloth to absorb any remaining moisture and keep the area well-ventilated and dry.
Mesh Fabric Chair Backs
- First, use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust, focusing on cleaning debris from the seams.
- Spray with a specialized foam cleaner or diluted neutral office furniture cleaner (ratio 1:10), and gently brush along the mesh direction with a soft, fine-bristled toothbrush to avoid damaging the fibers.
- After cleaning, use facial tissue to absorb moisture. Do not expose to direct sunlight to prevent the mesh from deforming and fading.
PU Material Chair Backs
- For light stains, gently wipe with a damp cloth. For moderate stains, dab with a leather cleaner in a circular motion and then polish with a dry cloth.
- If you need to brighten the surface, you can use a small amount of leather brightener, but apply it evenly to avoid local stickiness.
Fabric Chair Backs
- Light Stains: After vacuuming, wipe with aๆงๅนฒ็ (wrung-out) damp cloth (you can add 1-2 drops of dish soap) in a single direction along the fabric grain.
- Moderate Stains: Mix dish soap with warm water in a 1:10 ratio, spray, and gently brush for 20-30 seconds with a soft-bristled brush. Immediately wipe off the foam with a damp cloth.
- Stubborn Stains (such as coffee or oil stains): Use a specialized foam cleaner, focusing on the stained area with a soft-bristled brush. After cleaning, use a dry cloth to absorb moisture.
- Key Precautions: Avoid spraying excessive moisture to prevent mold growth in the internal sponge. Test the cleaner for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area before cleaning.
II. General Cleaning Steps
- Comprehensive Vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to clean the chair back surface and seams, reducing the difficulty of subsequent cleaning.
- Select Cleaner: Choose a neutral leather cleaner, specialized office furniture cleaner, or foam cleaner according to the material. Do not use strong acid or alkaline cleaners.
- Clean by Area: Wipe from top to bottom, focusing on areas prone to dust accumulation such as the connection between the chair back and seat, and under the armrests.
- Residue Treatment: Wipe off cleaner traces with a cloth dampened in clean water and wrung out, then immediately use a dry cloth to absorb moisture and prevent penetration.
- Drying: Allow to air dry naturally in a cool, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent material aging or fading.
III. Key Precautions
- Before cleaning, always test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area to confirm there is no color fading or corrosion before applying it to a larger area.
- After cleaning fabric chair backs, thoroughly absorb moisture. If necessary, use a hairdryer on a low heat setting from a distance (โฅ30cm) to dry.
- For genuine leather chair backs, it is recommended to use a leather conditioner every quarter to extend their service life.
