Office Chair Back Adjustable

Admin October 13, 2026

The adjustable back function of office chairs is mainly achieved through mechanisms for adjusting the recline angle, elasticity, and locking. Here are the specific adjustment methods:

I. Recline Angle Adjustment

Recline angle adjustment is the core function of an adjustable back. Common adjustment methods include lever, knob, and pneumatic systems. 1. Lever Adjustment System: This is often found in mid-range and high-end office chairs. The adjustment lever is usually located on the right or left side beneath the seat. To use it, first pull up or push the lever to unlock it, then slowly lean back to a comfortable angle. Some chairs support locking the position again to fix the angle. This method is intuitive to operate, but care must be taken to maintain body balance during adjustment to avoid losing center of gravity due to sudden leaning back. 2. Knob Adjustment System: Some ergonomic chairs control the recline angle and tension through a knob located beneath the seat. Turning the knob clockwise increases the recline resistance, suitable for users with a heavier weight or those who prefer stable support; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, facilitating flexible recline for lighter users or scenarios requiring more mobility. Some chairs may have separate knobs for controlling the angle and tension, and users should distinguish the functions according to the instructions. 3. Pneumatic Adjustment System: Modern office chairs may use a pneumatic lever (shared with the height adjustment lever), allowing smooth recline by pushing the lever in different directions. This method does not require repeated locking, making the adjustment process smoother. However, attention should be paid to the quality of the gas cylinder, as inferior ones may pose safety risks.

II. Recline Elasticity Adjustment

Elasticity adjustment is achieved through a cylindrical knob on the base, primarily controlling the backrest's rebound support force. Turning the knob clockwise tightens it, increasing the elasticity, suitable for users who need stronger back support; turning it counterclockwise loosens it, reducing the elasticity and the resistance when leaning back. During adjustment, consider personal weight and preferences to avoid excessive elasticity making it difficult to lean back or insufficient elasticity resulting in inadequate support.

III. Recline Locking Function

The locking function can fix the backrest angle to prevent wobbling during use. To operate, find the control lever on the right side of the seat, pull it out to allow the backrest to lean back freely, adjust to the desired angle, and then push the lever back to lock it. To return to an upright position, pull the lever outward, gently push the backrest, and then push the lever back to complete the locking. This function is suitable for scenarios requiring a fixed sitting posture, such as focused work or meetings.

IV. Special Design Adjustments

Some office chairs offer multi-dimensional adjustment functions for users with different body types. For example, the Sihoo M90 Ergonomic Chair supports independent adjustment of the backrest, lumbar support, and headrest, with a seat height range of 45-55 cm, suitable for users with a height of 165-185 cm, but does not provide detailed information on the recline mechanism; the Hbada P5 Dual-Back (E201BSF) requires fixing the backrest and seat cushion connection holes with screws, and may not support recline adjustment during use after installation.

Precautions: Ensure the chair is placed on a stable surface during adjustment to avoid tipping over due to excessive recline; long-term improper use may affect spinal health, and it is recommended to adjust to a natural curve state according to ergonomic principles.
