Office Chair Armrest Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

Repairing an office chair armrest requires different methods depending on the type of damage. Common types of damage and repair methods are as follows:

Armrest Breakage

If the armrest of an office chair breaks, the repair steps are relatively complex. First, the repair technician will use woodworking glue to bond the broken parts, applying multiple coats of glue to ensure a firm bond. Next, using an electric drill, they will drill holes at an angle first, then drill straight down, inserting a glue-coated wooden stick to create a framework that prevents misalignment and further cracking of the broken parts. After that, they will cut off the excess wooden stick, smooth it with a knife, and then sand it smooth. Finally, they will apply paint while baking, sand it with fine sandpaper, and finish with a topcoat. Some technicians may use another method, directly clamping the broken parts, drilling holes at an angle, patching with a round stick, sawing off the excess, and polishing with sandpaper. For cracks, they will repeatedly glue them with 502 glue, sand them smooth, and then paint to mimic the wood grain.

Height Adjustment Handle Malfunction

The causes of a malfunctioning height adjustment handle are usually accumulated dirt, dust from daily use, or rust and physical damage from frequent operation. Different repair and replacement strategies are available for different situations.

  • Deep Cleaning: Use a professional cleaner and a soft cloth to thoroughly clean the handle and its surrounding area, removing dirt and dust. This is the basic step to resolve malfunctions caused by dirt.
  • Lubrication: For rusty or slightly damaged handles, first disassemble them, then evenly spray lubricant, and reinstall them to restore normal operation.
  • Handle Replacement: If the above methods are ineffective, select a new handle of the correct model and install it according to the instructions.

In addition, to prevent malfunctions of the height adjustment handle, operate gently during daily use, avoiding excessive force when adjusting the height of the office chair and gradually adjusting to the appropriate height; perform regular maintenance by cleaning and lubricating the handle regularly to ensure it is in good working condition; and store the office chair in a dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight to slow down rusting and wear.
