Office Chair Armrest Quality

Admin October 16, 2026

The quality of office chair armrests is influenced by multiple factors, including load-bearing capacity, materials, craftsmanship, and inspection standards.

Load-Bearing Capacity: According to the light industry standard QB/T 2280 - 2016, the officially recommended maximum body weight for office chairs in China is 102 kilograms. Armrests must pass static load tests and dynamic/durability tests to ensure sufficient structural strength, durability, and safety within the 102-kilogram weight range to handle daily use scenarios.

Material Selection: Different materials significantly impact armrest quality. Modified PP (polypropylene), especially glass-fiber-reinforced PP, is a commonly used high-quality material due to its high rigidity, strength, and impact resistance. Panel armrests offer strong load-bearing capacity and resistance to deformation, while wooden armrests provide a premium feel but have limited load-bearing capacity. From a comfort perspective, high-quality leather or PU is soft and elastic, helping to relieve arm fatigue. Metal materials (such as aluminum alloy and stainless steel) offer high strength and durability, but their cold and hard nature may reduce comfort. Plastic materials are cost-effective and available in various colors, but their high hardness requires a balance between cost and comfort. Polyurethane (PU) foam armrests are widely used in high-end office chairs due to their combination of soft touch and supportive resilience. They are manufactured using an integral foam process, molded in one piece, with a dense surface film combined with a uniform internal microcellular structure. The surface is smooth and not cold to the touch, with a firm grip, and they are wear-resistant, weather-resistant, and acid/alkali-resistant, making them less prone to cracking or deformation over long-term use and better at absorbing arm pressure to reduce fatigue.

Craftsmanship Requirements: The polyurethane foam process has a high technical threshold, with raw material ratios, mold temperature control, and pouring techniques all affecting the final product's density, resilience, and appearance. Professional manufacturers maintain stricter control over these aspects to ensure consistent armrest quality.

Inspection Standards: Office chair PU armrests must meet multiple inspection standards. In terms of appearance, the color must match the product design, with a color difference (โ–ณE) of โ‰ค1.5 and a gloss deviation of ยฑ10% or less. The surface must be smooth, with no noticeable unevenness when touched by hand, a flatness error of โ‰ค0.5mm over a 500mm length, and no defects such as bubbles, cracks, or peeling. There should be โ‰ค3 impurity particles with a diameter <0.5mm per 100 square centimeters. For dimensions, the length and width tolerances must be within ยฑ2mm, the installation hole spacing error within ยฑ1mm, and the hole diameter tolerance within ยฑ0.5mm. In terms of performance, the wear resistance must result in a surface wear depth of โ‰ค0.2mm after 5,000 friction cycles. The aging resistance must show a color change (โ–ณE) of โ‰ค3.0 and no significant cracking or chalking after 1,000 hours of ultraviolet aging testing. The adhesion must be โ‰ฅGrade 1 according to the GB/T 9286 - 1998 standard. The compressive strength must withstand a 1,000N pressure for 10 minutes, with a deformation of โ‰ค5mm after unloading and no cracking or damage.
