Office Chair Adjustable Backrest

Admin October 12, 2026

The adjustment methods for the adjustable backrest of an office chair mainly include lever adjustment systems, knob adjustment systems, and pneumatic adjustment systems. The specific operations are as follows:

Lever Adjustment System: First, locate the adjustment lever, which is usually positioned beneath the seat, near the right or left side. Once found, release the recline lock and gently pull up or push down the lever to unlock it. Then, shift your body weight backward while adjusting the lever to achieve a comfortable recline angle for the backrest. If the chair has a locking function, after adjusting to the desired angle, pull up or push down the lever again to lock the position. For example, some chairs have a handle on the right side; a gentle pull unlocks the backrest, and pulling out the control lever on the right side of the seat cushion allows for free recline. Once you find the right angle, a gentle push locks it in place. To return to an upright position, pull the control lever outward to give your back a push, and once the chair is upright, push the control lever back in to lock it.

Knob Adjustment System: Locating the knob is crucial. In most cases, the knob is located beneath the seat, typically near the center close to the support column. When adjusting the recline tension, turning the knob clockwise usually increases the resistance of the backrest's recline, while turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance. Some chairs may have a separate knob to adjust the recline angle, in which case you should refer to the product manual for specific operations. For instance, the cylindrical knob on the chassis can enhance the rebound support force when turned clockwise and weaken it when turned counterclockwise.

Pneumatic Adjustment System: The pneumatic lever is usually arranged together with the height adjustment lever, and different directions of pushing are used to adjust the recline. The pneumatic system provides a smooth adjustment experience; simply pull the lever gently to adjust the backrest to a comfortable angle.

When adjusting the backrest of an office chair, ensure the chair's balance and stability to prevent tipping over. At the same time, choose an appropriate recline angle based on personal needs and the nature of your work. For example, when you need to focus on work for an extended period, choose a smaller recline angle; when resting and relaxing, choose a larger recline angle.
