Assembly and Disassembly of Office Chair Accessories

Admin October 11, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of office chair accessories should be carried out in accordance with standardized procedures. The installation and disassembly processes are opposite, and attention should be paid to the use of tools and the management of parts.

Installation Steps

  1. Assembly of Casters and Chair Base: Insert each caster vertically into the mounting holes of the chair base, ensuring that the clips are fully engaged. After that, place the gas lift (height adjustment column) vertically into the center hole of the chair base and keep it upright.
  2. Fixing the Seat Plate to the Chair Seat: Use a Phillips screwdriver to fix the seat plate to the bottom of the chair seat with screws. Make sure the screws are tightened until there is no looseness to prevent the seat plate from falling off during subsequent use.
  3. Connecting the Chair Back to the Chair Seat: Align the mounting holes of the chair back with the connectors on the chair seat and fix them with screws or clips to form the upper body structure of the chair. Then, insert the assembled base (chair seat + seat plate) vertically into the top of the gas lift, ensuring a tight contact.
  4. Installing the Armrests and Headrest: Depending on the design type, the armrests may be fixed to the sides of the chair seat or below the chair back with screws. The headrest is inserted into the reserved hole at the top of the chair back, and some models may require screws for reinforcement.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Separating the Chair Back: Unscrew the screws at the connection between the chair back and the chair seat counterclockwise or press the clips to lift the chair back upwards for separation.
  2. Removing the Base from the Gas Lift: Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the chair seat with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while gently shaking to detach the base from the gas lift. If it is stuck, you can lightly tap the bottom of the chair seat to assist in separation.
  3. Separating the Gas Lift from the Chair Base: Invert the chair base and lightly tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet. If there is no rubber mallet, you can place a wooden board between the gas lift and the chair base and then tap to avoid direct impact and damage.
  4. Disassembling Other Parts: Follow the reverse order of the installation steps. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws, and store the parts in categories. The armrests and headrest can usually be pulled out directly or removed after unscrewing the screws.

Precautions

  1. Tool Preparation: Basic tools include Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, and rubber mallets. Special screws (such as Torx screws) require matching screwdriver bits. An electric screwdriver should have its torque adjusted to prevent slipping.
  2. Part Management: Pack the removed screws and nuts in sealed bags according to the steps and label their positions (such as "chair back screws" and "seat plate screws") to avoid loss or confusion.
  3. Handling Special Situations: If the screws are rusty, drip a small amount of lubricating oil (such as WD-40) and let it sit for 10 minutes before operating. Avoid using excessive force during disassembly to prevent the plastic parts from breaking.
