Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chairs are chairs equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. There are various types, and attention should be paid to their safety risks.

Definition and Classification of Office Chairs

The English term for office chair is 'office chair'. OfficeMate categorizes office chairs into two types: narrow and broad. Narrow office chairs refer to the backrest chairs used by people when sitting at a desk for work. These chairs mainly meet the basic sitting needs during daily office work and provide a certain degree of support and comfort for users. Broad office chairs encompass all chairs used in offices, including executive chairs and staff chairs. Executive chairs are typically used in the offices of senior corporate management. Their design places greater emphasis on luxury and comfort, and they are relatively larger in size. Staff chairs are used by ordinary employees for daily office work and focus more on practicality and cost-effectiveness.

Key Points for Placement and Use of Office Chairs

In terms of the layout of office desks and chairs, there are considerations for adjusting the angle of the chair. When the chair is adjusted to an angle between 110 and 135 degrees, the pressure on the lumbar spine can be reduced by half. This is because within this angle range, the human spine can maintain a relatively natural physiological curvature, reducing the burden on the waist muscles, helping to prevent lumbar diseases, and improving office comfort and efficiency.

Safety Risks of Office Chairs

Office chairs also pose some safety risks. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada initiated a recall of office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking, which could lead to falls. At that time, 12 reports had been received, including 10 injury reports. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation conducted a national supervision and inspection of office chairs and found that 15 batches of products were unqualified, with stability issues being particularly prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States initiated another recall of WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China because the bolts might fail, posing a risk of falls. Seven reports had been received, including two minor injuries. These recall incidents remind consumers and businesses to pay attention to the quality and safety of products when selecting and using office chairs. They should choose products with quality assurance from regular channels and regularly inspect various components of the office chair, such as bolts and backrests, to ensure they are intact and avoid accidents caused by quality issues with the office chair.
