Normal Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

A normal office chair is a chair equipped for the convenience of work in daily work and social activities. In a narrow sense, it refers to the backrest chair used for desk work in a sitting position, with clear specifications and requirements in terms of height, adjustability, and quality.

Height Standards: According to the provisions of GB/T 3976 - 2014, the height of an adult office chair should be within the range of 40 to 50 centimeters. There are more detailed adaptation suggestions for different heights. For a person who is 160 centimeters tall, it is recommended to adjust the chair to 42 to 43 centimeters; for someone who is 165 centimeters tall, 43 to 45 centimeters is suitable; and for a person who is 170 centimeters tall, it is best to adjust it to 45 to 47 centimeters. When sitting, both feet should be able to rest flat on the ground, with the thighs and calves kept perpendicular. The height of the desk should preferably be level with the elbows, and the height difference between the desk and the chair should be best controlled within 28 to 32 centimeters. Such height settings can ensure that the user is in a comfortable and correct sitting position, reducing physical fatigue and injury.

Adjustability: An office chair must be adjustable. The current mainstream pneumatic rods offer a relatively large adjustment range and can be adapted to people of different heights. This adjustability makes office chairs more versatile and practical, meeting the personalized needs of different users and allowing everyone to find the most suitable sitting height for themselves.

Characteristics: Some normal office chairs have excellent characteristics. For example, the Qingxian office chair can be installed and used immediately, with easy and effortless adjustment. No matter which gear it is reclined to, the backrest tightly fits the waist, providing good lumbar support, reducing lumbar pressure, and enhancing user comfort.

Quality Issues: Office chairs also have some quality problems. On March 2, 2023, the United States and Canada implemented a recall of office chairs made in China due to the risk of the backrest breaking, which could lead to falls. On September 30, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation found that 15 batches of office chairs failed the national supervision and inspection, with stability issues being prominent. On January 16, 2025, the United States implemented a recall of WorkPro Momentum office chairs made in China because the bolts might fail, posing a risk of falls. These quality issues remind consumers to pay attention to product quality and safety when purchasing office chairs.
