New Office Chair Wobble
If your new office chair wobbles, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

Step 1: Check the Five-Star Base and Casters
The five-star base (the five legs of the chair) is the core structure supporting the chair. Check if it is intact without any cracks or significant deformation. If there are any issues, replace it promptly to prevent uneven force distribution that can cause wobbling. Also, observe whether all five casters are evenly in contact with the ground. If a caster is suspended, it may be due to an uneven floor or a damaged caster. If the caster is entangled with hair or threads, it can cause poor rolling, and you should clean the debris or replace the damaged caster.
Step 2: Check the Gas Lift Cylinder
The gas lift cylinder is responsible for adjusting the chair's height. Focus on checking the connections at both ends, where it attaches to the seat and the five-star base. If the connections are loose, or if there is abnormal play (looseness) or unusual noise when pressing the chair vertically, it may indicate internal wear of the gas lift cylinder or a poor fit with the interfaces. The gas lift cylinder is a precision component, and it is not recommended to disassemble or repair it yourself. Instead, contact after-sales service or a professional for replacement to avoid safety hazards caused by improper operation.
Step 3: Check the Connections Between Components
An office chair is assembled from multiple components using screws and bolts. After long-term use, the connections may become loose due to vibrations. Use appropriate tools (such as an Allen wrench) to check and tighten all visible connection screws, including those between the seat and the gas rod, the armrests and the seat, and the backrest and the seat. Pay special attention to ensuring that all screws are fully tightened to prevent overall wobbling caused by local looseness.
Step 4: Consider Other Potential Factors
- Mechanical Wear: Frequent pressure can cause wear on screws and nuts, resulting in a loose fit. Regularly inspect and replace worn components.
- Material Fatigue: Plastic components can become brittle and break due to temperature and humidity changes. Damage to the seal ring of the gas rod can cause height adjustment failure and worsen wobbling. Replace aging components as needed.
- Improper Assembly: If the chair was not assembled with bolts evenly tightened, it can lead to multiple imbalances. Reassemble the chair according to the instructions.
- Environmental Factors: An uneven floor or prolonged exposure to moisture can prevent the base from fully contacting the ground, exacerbating the wobbling sensation. Adjust the chair's position or improve the environmental humidity.
