MUJI Office Chair Assembly

Admin October 11, 2026

The assembly of a MUJI office chair can be carried out by referring to the assembly steps of a regular office chair. Here are the specific assembly methods:

I. Inventory the Parts Before assembly, carefully check all the parts to ensure that the quantity is complete and there is no damage. The parts of a regular office chair usually include: casters (wheels), pneumatic height-adjustment rods (gas rods), five-star bases (chair bases), control trays for the height-adjustment mechanism, seats (including cushions and backrests), armrests (for some models), screws, and tools. The parts of a MUJI office chair may vary slightly depending on the model, but the core components are similar. If any parts are found to be missing or damaged, contact after-sales service promptly for replacement.

II. Install the Seat and Tray Align the control tray for the height-adjustment mechanism with the reserved mounting holes at the bottom of the seat and fix it with screws. Note that the orientation of the tray should match the seat design. For example, the height-adjustment handle should be on the right side of the seat (assuming right-handed operation is common). If the tray and seat of the MUJI office chair are of a snap-fit design, align the slots and press firmly until you hear a 'click' sound to confirm a secure connection.

III. Assemble the Five-Star Base and Casters Insert the casters one by one into the ends of the five legs of the five-star base. Ensure that the casters are fully embedded and rotate smoothly. Some casters may need to be secured with screws, so follow the instructions in the manual. If the five-star base is made of metal, avoid scratching the surface during installation; if it is made of plastic, check that the interface between the casters and the legs is tight to prevent loosening.

IV. Connect the Pneumatic Height-Adjustment Rod and the Seat Insert the pneumatic height-adjustment rod (gas rod) vertically into the central hole of the five-star base. Ensure that the bottom of the gas rod is in full contact with the bottom of the five-star base to avoid tilting, which could cause the pneumatic pressure to fail. Then, align the seat (with the tray already installed) with the top of the gas rod and press down slowly until the seat and the gas rod are fully locked. Keep the gas rod vertical during this step, otherwise, it may affect the height-adjustment function or cause the seat to tilt.

V. Install the Armrests (if applicable) If the MUJI office chair is equipped with armrests, install them after the seat and the gas rod are connected. Align the armrests with the reserved holes on both sides of the seat and fix them with screws. Ensure that the height of the armrests is the same. After installation, you can fine-tune the angle of the armrests by adjusting the screws to ensure comfort.

VI. Inspection and Adjustment After assembly is complete, conduct a comprehensive inspection to ensure that all parts are firmly connected:

  1. Sit on the chair and operate the height-adjustment handle to confirm that the seat can be raised and lowered smoothly;
  2. Rotate the chair to check that the casters move flexibly and without abnormal noise;
  3. Shake the chair to confirm that the connections between the five-star base and the gas rod, and between the seat and the tray are not loose.

If any abnormalities are found, re-check the installation of the corresponding steps. MUJI office chairs are usually designed to be simple, but during assembly, it is still necessary to follow the principle of 'bottom-up, fix first then adjust' to ensure safety and normal functionality.
