Menstrual Blood Stains on Office Chair

Admin October 22, 2026

After menstrual blood stains an office chair, it should be dealt with immediately and cleaned according to different situations, while adjusting the method based on the fabric.

Immediate Handling

Upon discovering that menstrual blood has stained the office chair, use clean paper towels or a cloth to press and absorb the excess liquid on the surface as soon as possible. Avoid wiping back and forth to prevent the stain from spreading. If you are in the office, you can cover the stain with wet wipes and temporarily cover the chair with a coat or other items to reduce embarrassment.

Cleaning According to Different Situations

  • Fresh Blood Stains: After absorbing the excess blood, turn the stained area upside down and rinse the back with a large amount of running cold water or soak it in cold water for 15-30 minutes to soften and dissolve the blood stain. Then apply a mild neutral detergent, underwear soap, or sulfur soap, and gently rub with your fingers or a soft cloth. Finally, rinse thoroughly with cold water and use a dry towel to absorb the excess moisture, ensuring that the chair fabric is completely dry.
  • Old/Stubborn Blood Stains (e.g., those that have been there for more than 12-24 hours): First, soak in cold water for 30 minutes to 2 hours to fully soften the dried blood stain. Then apply a laundry detergent containing protease or a special detergent for underwear, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the enzyme to break down the protein. Next, gently brush in one direction with a soft-bristled brush. For white or light-colored fabrics that are bleach-resistant, you can spot-apply 3% medical hydrogen peroxide, let it sit for 5-15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water. Be sure to test it on a hidden area of the chair first to prevent fading. You can also try using cold salt water (10 grams of salt per liter of water), diluted white vinegar, or a baking soda paste for local treatment to help break down the stain. Another method is to first spray alcohol to break down the blood stain, wait for about 5 minutes, then spray a collar cleaner to further break it down. After brushing, let it sit for half an hour. After half an hour, use a wet brush to repeatedly scrub for two or three minutes, then wipe the chair with a wet cloth. Finally, pour a color-safe bleach solution on a wet cloth soaked with water and place it on the blood stain for half an hour. After that, use a clean wet cloth to repeatedly wipe away the residue.

Adjusting According to the Fabric

  • Fabric/Mesh Fabric: These are relatively water-resistant. You can refer to the above methods of soaking and gentle scrubbing, or use a neutral or special fabric cleaner.
  • Leather Fabric: Extra care is needed to avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals. It is recommended to gently wipe the stained area with a damp cloth dipped in diluted neutral soap solution and immediately dry it with a dry cloth. Finally, you can use a leather conditioner for maintenance.

Other Suggestions

If the stained area is large, you can go to the company restroom and squeeze some hand soap, and use wet wipes or a wet cloth to repeatedly wipe it. If it is really difficult to clean, you can move the chair to the restroom for a thorough cleaning after everyone has left work. Before using any special cleaner, test it on a hidden area of the chair.
