Loosening Under Office Chair

Admin October 14, 2026

Loosening under an office chair can involve multiple parts and requires targeted handling based on the specific situation. Here are common causes and solutions:

Five-claw base and its connecting screw issues The five-claw base is the core component for the chair's stability. If the connecting screws are loose or the bottom plastic sleeves are worn, it can lead to overall wobbling. When the screws are loose, use the corresponding tools (such as an Allen wrench or screwdriver) to check and tighten all the connecting screws one by one, ensuring each screw is firmly in place. If the screw threads in the holes are stripped, you can sharpen a small wooden stick or bamboo piece and insert it into the hole, using its friction to secure a new self-tapping screw. If the bottom plastic sleeves are severely worn, directly replace them with matching base sleeves to avoid wobbling due to an uneven contact surface.

Gas lift rod aging or failure The gas lift rod is responsible for the chair's height adjustment function. If the internal seals are aged or damaged, it can not only cause the height adjustment to be stuck, leak air, but also lead to chair instability. The inspection method is to try adjusting the chair's height. If there is difficulty in height adjustment, a leaking sound, or it cannot maintain a fixed height, it indicates that the gas lift rod has failed and needs to be replaced with a new one of the same specification. Pay attention to safety during replacement to avoid injury from the sudden ejection of the gas lift rod.

Looseness at the connection between the seat and the gas lift rod This part is usually fixed with screws or clips. If it is loose, it will produce a noticeable wobbling sensation. When the screws are loose, tighten them with the appropriate tools. If the screws are stripped, you can wrap a thin cloth or napkin around them to increase friction and try tightening them, or directly replace them with new screws. If it is a clip-on connection, check if the clips are broken and replace the entire connector if necessary.

Roller bracket or roller failure For office chairs with rollers, if the connection between the bracket and the chair legs is loose or the rollers themselves are damaged, it can also cause the chair to wobble. When the bracket is loose, simply tighten the fixing screws on the bracket. If the rollers wobble or do not rotate smoothly, pinch the clips on both sides of the rollers to pull out the old rollers and install new ones of the same size. Ensure that the roller models match during replacement to avoid further looseness due to size mismatches.

When handling, first cut off the power and flip the chair to ensure operational safety. If you are not familiar with the internal structure, it is recommended to contact a professional repair person or refer to the product manual to avoid damaging the chair due to improper operation.
