Removal of Oil Stains on Leather Office Chairs
Admin October 09, 2026
The removal of oil stains on leather office chairs requires selecting the appropriate method based on the condition of the oil stains, as detailed below:

I. Handling Freshly Spilled Oil Stains
Immediately use a clean tissue or non-woven cloth to gently press and absorb the oil from the outside in, avoiding back-and-forth wiping that can spread the oil stain. This step should be done quickly to prevent the oil from penetrating the leather fibers.
II. Handling Less Severe Oil Stains
- Professional Leather Cleaner: Spray and wait for 1 minute to allow the cleaner to fully break down the oil stain, then wipe clean with a damp towel.
- White Toothpaste: Choose colorless or white toothpaste, using its tiny particles' abrasive action to assist in removing oil stains. After wiping, rinse off any residue with clean water.
- Neutral Cleaner or Diluted Dishwashing Liquid: Dip a soft cloth into the solution and gently wipe. The neutral formula reduces chemical irritation to the leather. Dilute dishwashing liquid at a 1:10 ratio to avoid foam residue damaging the leather.
- Neutral Detergent: Dip a clean cloth into an appropriate amount, keeping it semi-dry and semi-wet, and gently wipe the stained area to avoid excessive moisture causing the leather to deform.
III. Handling Particularly Stubborn Oil Stains
- Baking Soda + Cornstarch Mixture: Mix at a 1:1 ratio and apply thickly to the oil stain, leaving it overnight. Baking soda absorbs odors, while cornstarch absorbs oil, making it especially suitable for light-colored seats.
- White Vinegar Diluted with Water or Baking Soda Paste: Dilute white vinegar with water at a 1:3 ratio and wipe, or directly apply baking soda paste (baking soda + a small amount of water to form a paste), using acidity or alkalinity to neutralize the oil stain.
- Gasoline or Alcohol Dissolution Method: Only suitable for edible oil stains. Use a cotton swab to dip a small amount of solvent and gently wipe. After dissolution, immediately clean any residue with a neutral detergent. This method should be performed in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames.
IV. Post-Treatment Maintenance
- Leather Conditioner: After the seat is completely dry, apply a specialized conditioner to restore shine and form a protective film, extending its lifespan.
- Nano Waterproof Spray: Regular spraying forms an invisible protective layer to prevent oil stains from penetrating, especially suitable for high-frequency use scenarios.
Precautions:
- Avoid using strongly alkaline cleaners or hard brushes to prevent scratches or discoloration on the leather surface.
- Any cleaning method should be tested on an inconspicuous area first to confirm no discoloration or damage before widespread use.
- Timeliness in oil stain treatment is crucial. It is recommended to complete the process within 48 hours to prevent the oil from penetrating deep into the leather fibers.
- Regular maintenance (every 3 months) can maintain the leather's flexibility and reduce the risk of cracking.
