How to Use an Office Chair Lifter

Admin October 08, 2026

The use of an office chair lifter mainly relies on a gas lift cylinder (pneumatic rod), which adjusts the internal gas pressure through a control lever to achieve height changes. The specific operation steps are as follows:

I. Working Principle

The core of the office chair's lifting function is the gas lift cylinder (pneumatic rod), which is filled with high-pressure gas inside and controls gas flow through a small push valve at the top. When the height adjustment lever is pulled or pressed, the gas pressure inside the pneumatic rod is released or adjusted, thereby changing the height of the chair. This process is based on the principle of gas pressure balance and achieves smooth lifting and lowering through mechanical control.

II. Operation Steps

  1. Confirm a Safe Environment
Before operation, ensure there are no obstacles around to prevent the chair from colliding with objects or people during lifting or lowering. Maintain a stable posture to prevent imbalance caused by chair movement.

  2. Locate the Control Lever
The control lever is usually located on the right side or in the middle at the bottom of the seat. It may be in the form of a lever, knob, or button. For some chairs, you may need to flip the seat or touch the bottom to find it. Observe carefully before operation.

  3. Adjust Your Posture
To reduce pressure on the seat, stand straight or slightly lift your body to avoid hindering the lifting and lowering due to body weight. If the chair is overloaded, it may make adjustment difficult or damage the pneumatic rod.

  4. Activate the Control Lever
Gently press or pull up the control lever, and the chair will start to lower slowly. To raise the chair, some models require you to sit up straight first and then pull up the control lever upwards. Refer to the chair's instruction manual for specific operations.

  5. Adjust the Height
Control the lowering or rising speed according to your needs. Release the control lever when the desired height is reached. Some chairs require continuous pressing of the control lever to maintain the adjustment state and automatically lock when released.

  6. Confirm Stability
After releasing the control lever, gently shake the seat to check if it is firmly locked. If the seat wobbles, readjust the height or check if the pneumatic rod is damaged.

III. Precautions

  • Avoid sudden force: Rapid operation may cause the chair to drop or rise rapidly, resulting in component damage or personal injury.
  • Maintain balance: When the seat is high, hold onto the armrests firmly to prevent tipping over.
  • Regular inspection: Check the pneumatic rod, control lever, and other components monthly for wear or looseness, and replace aging parts in a timely manner.

IV. Common Problem Handling

  • Chair drops too fast: This may be due to excessive pressure on the control lever. Reduce the operating force or check if the pneumatic rod is leaking gas.
  • Unable to adjust height: This may be due to a failed pneumatic rod or a stuck control lever. Contact after-sales service to replace parts.
  • Lifting and lowering stutter: This may be due to insufficient internal gas or dust blockage. Seek professional repair or replace the pneumatic rod.
