How to Uninstall an Office Chair
Admin October 16, 2026
The method for uninstalling an office chair depends on its type. Here are the specific steps:

I. Disassembly Process for Pneumatic Office Chairs
Preliminary Preparation
- Wear protective gloves and let the chair sit for 1 hour to release the internal pressure of the pneumatic rod, preventing parts from being ejected due to high pressure during disassembly.
- Prepare tools such as a wrench, rubber mallet, Phillips screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, and WD-40 rust inhibitor (as a backup).
Step-by-Step Operations
- Base Removal: Flip the chair over and use a wrench to turn the wheel screw counterclockwise to remove the base.
- Separation of Pneumatic Rod and Chassis: Gently tap the metal ring at the root of the pneumatic rod with a rubber mallet and turn the plastic cover of the chassis counterclockwise to loosen the pneumatic rod from the chassis.
- Seat Cushion Removal: Remove the four Phillips screws at the bottom of the seat cushion (if rusted, drip lubricating oil and let it sit for 10 minutes) to separate the seat cushion from the pneumatic rod.
- Core Component Extraction: Grasp the pneumatic rod and lift it vertically while swaying it left and right to slowly extract the core of the pneumatic rod.
- Residue Cleaning: Use needle-nose pliers to remove the remaining plastic washers from the holes in the chassis to ensure a clean connection.
Handling Stuck Parts
- If parts cannot be separated, inject WD-40 rust inhibitor and let it sit for half an hour, or use a hairdryer to heat the epoxy adhesive joint to 60โ to soften the adhesive and assist in separation.
- Do not violently strike the pneumatic rod to prevent the outer steel tube from being damaged, causing the oil seal to fail and leading to hydraulic oil leakage.
II. Disassembly Process for Regular Office Chairs
Seat Panel Separation
- Use a screwdriver to remove the four screws on the back of the seat panel. Lift the fixed iron plate and gently tap the chassis with a hammer to pry off the snap ring and separate the lift.
Wheel Removal
- Snap-in Wheels: Use a nail to hook the snap of the iron core and gently tap the nail to make the wheel fall off.
- Threaded Wheels: Simply unscrew the screw connecting the wheel to the base.
Base Removal
- Turn the chair upside down and tap around the bottom steel ring with a rubber mallet to loosen the base from the chair body and then separate it by pulling.
III. General Precautions
- Component Storage: Store all screws and connectors in sealed bags or containers by category to avoid loss and facilitate subsequent reassembly.
- Environmental Protection Disposal: Scrap pneumatic rods should be sent to metal recycling agencies for disposal. Do not discard them randomly to prevent hydraulic oil from polluting the environment.
- Model Adaptation: Specific operations should be adjusted according to the chair model. It is recommended to refer to the user manual or contact the manufacturer for guidance before disassembly.
Tip: If complex structures (such as hidden screws or integrated designs) are encountered during disassembly, it is advisable to take photos to record the steps or seek the assistance of professional maintenance personnel to avoid damaging the parts.
