How to Stack Office Chairs During Transportation

Admin October 08, 2026

The method for stacking office chairs during transportation is as follows: stack identical chairs upside down on the chairs on the ground, ensuring that the contact area between the backrest and the seat surface is one-third, stack them layer by layer in a snug fit, place heavy chairs and chairs with wheels on the lower layers, and light chairs on the upper layers. Secure the chair legs tightly and align the structures accordingly, using flexible straps to fix them, and do not stack more than 5-6 layers.

I. Basic Stacking Operations
When stacking office chairs of the same model, invert one chair so that its seat faces downward and place it on the ground, then stack another normally placed chair on top of the inverted chair. Ensure that the top of the backrest of the inverted chair contacts the seat surface of the normally placed chair, and control the contact area between the backrest and the top surface of the two chairs to be about one-third of the total area. This ratio ensures stacking stability while avoiding difficulties in disassembly due to excessive contact area.

II. Layered Stacking Principles
When stacking, follow the principle of "heavy on the bottom, light on the top": place heavier chairs or chairs with wheels on the lower layers, and lighter chairs on the upper layers to prevent overall tipping due to a shift in the center of gravity. For each layer stacked, first handle the chair leg structureโ€”insert the chair legs of the upper layer into the gaps of the chair legs of the lower layer, allowing the chairs of each layer to interlock through the chair legs. This snap-fit design prevents the chairs from shifting and sliding, and evenly distributes the overall stress points, reducing the risk of shaking.

III. Structural Alignment and Fit
When stacking, pay attention to the structural alignment between the upper and lower chairs:

  1. The backrest of a regular office chair should fit into the backrest groove of the lower chair;
  2. The backrest crossbar of a folding chair should align with the upper edge of the armrest of the lower chair;
  3. For chairs with armrests, ensure that the positions of the armrests on the upper and lower layers correspond.
    Through structural alignment, each layer of chairs can form fixed stress points, preventing lateral sliding while reducing the overall lateral width and saving transportation space.

IV. Fixation and Height Control
After completing the stacking, wrap the entire stack 2-3 times with flexible straps (such as cloth or rubber straps) and gently pull to secure them, avoiding the use of hard straps that may scratch the chair surface. The number of stacked layers must be strictly controlled to no more than 5-6 layers. Excessive layers will cause the center of gravity to rise, and in environments with strong ventilation or frequent personnel movement, slight shaking can trigger tipping. If transportation space allows, it is recommended to further reduce the number of layers to enhance safety.
