How to Reset an Office Chair
Admin October 22, 2026
To reset an office chair to its original state, reverse the operation based on its specific adjustment functions. Here are the methods for restoring common adjustment functions:

I. Restoring Height Adjustment
If the office chair has a height adjustment function, it is usually controlled by a metal handle or lever beneath the seat. To restore the original height, push the lever back into place or repeatedly press down on the seat:
- Pneumatic lift model: For some chairs, repeatedly move the lever up and down to slowly lower the seat to its lowest point, at which time the lever will automatically reset and lock the height.
- Mechanical lift model: Directly press the seat down to its lowest position. The lever may need to be manually pushed back into place to lock the height.
Key Points: Maintain a stable center of gravity while operating to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod due to rapid pressing. If the lever cannot be reset, check if it is stuck by foreign objects or requires lubrication and maintenance.
II. Restoring Recline Adjustment
The recline function is usually controlled by a lever, knob, or pneumatic system. To restore the original state, lock the angle or adjust the resistance to its default value:
- Lever System: Located on the right or left side beneath the seat. Pull up the lever to release the lock, then slowly tilt the backrest forward to a vertical position, and push the lever back to lock the angle.
- Knob System:
- Resistance adjustment knob: Turn it clockwise to the maximum resistance (usually marked as โ+โ or โlockโ) to prevent the backrest from reclining.
- Angle lock knob: Some models have a separate knob that needs to be turned to the โ0โ or โlockโ position.
- Pneumatic System: When sharing the lever with the height adjustment, push the lever forward to a vertical position, and the backrest will automatically return to an upright position and lock.
Key Points: Ensure no external force is applied to the backrest before operating to avoid damaging the knob due to excessive rotation. If the recline function fails, check if the locking mechanism is worn.
III. Restoring Adjustments for Other Components
- Seat Slide Adjustment: If the seat can slide back and forth, it is controlled by a metal handle beneath the seat. Push the handle back into place, and the seat will slide to its forwardmost position and lock.
- Armrest Height Adjustment: Some armrests support lift-and-lower adjustment. Press the armrest down to its lowest position to restore the original height. If it is a rotary adjustment, turn it counterclockwise to its original position.
Precautions:
- Read the product manual or labels before operating to confirm the type of adjustment mechanism.
- Avoid using excessive force to prevent parts from breaking or getting stuck.
- Regularly clean the adjustment mechanisms to prevent dust from affecting their flexibility.
- If the chair has not been used for a long time, test the stability of each function after restoring it to its original state.
