How to Replace the Bottom Wheels of a Swivel Office Chair
Replacing the bottom wheels of a swivel office chair requires first identifying the type, then specifically removing the old wheels, and finally installing the new ones. Be careful not to damage other parts of the chair during the operation.

First, identify the type of the old wheels. There are two common types of bottom wheels for swivel office chairs: snap-ring type and threaded type. The connection part of snap-ring type wheels has a disc shape, while the connection part of threaded type wheels has a hexagonal shape. Accurately identifying the type is crucial for subsequent correct removal and installation. Different types of wheels have significantly different removal and installation methods. If identified incorrectly, it may lead to operational difficulties or even damage to the chair.
Next, proceed with removing the old wheels. For snap-ring type wheels, if you can't pull them out directly by force, you can insert a flat-head screwdriver into the connection between the wheel and the chair leg and gently pry it to loosen the snap ring using the lever principle, thus removing the old wheel. Alternatively, you can use pliers to grip the rod of the wheel and then gently tap the pliers with a hammer to separate the snap ring through vibration, making the wheel fall off. For threaded type wheels, you need to use a small wrench and turn the wheel to the left, as turning to the left is the direction to loosen the thread. Keep turning until the old wheel is completely unscrewed. You can also directly unscrew the old wheel with a wrench. During the removal process, pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the chair leg or the wheel connection part due to excessive force.
Finally, install the new wheels. If it is a snap-ring type wheel, align the forked rod of the new wheel with the hole in the chair leg and push it in forcefully to ensure that the snap ring is securely fastened. For forked-rod wheels, simply align them with the hole and press them in. A clicking sound generally indicates that they are installed in place. For threaded type wheels, align the new wheel with the threaded hole in the chair leg and turn it to the right with a wrench. Turning to the right is the direction to tighten the thread. Keep turning until the new wheel is tightly fastened. After installation, you can gently rotate the chair to check if the new wheels are firmly installed and can rotate normally.
